Summer House is heading north– to The Great White North, specifically.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBCUniversal has greenlit the first international adaptation of the Bravo reality series, with production on Summer House Canada currently underway in southern Ontario.
Following the same format as the OG series, ‘Summer House Canada’ will follow a group of friends escaping to a shared house on summer weekends. Naturally, the Canadian version will feature a summer home located “amid forested landscapes and lakeside cottages in Muskoka, Ontario, where wealthy Torontonians get away to escape the stress of big city life.”
“We’re thrilled to bring this adaptation of the standout ‘Summer House’ format to the market– and Muskoka offers the perfect, iconic Canadian setting to introduce ‘Summer House Canada’ and build on the franchise’s momentum,” Hendrik McDermott, managing director, international DTC (direct to consumer) at NBCUniversal, said in a statement to THR.
The upcoming series is being produced by Vancouver-based company Lark Productions, with the 10-episode season set to launch exclusively on NBCUniversal’s Hayu streaming platform in 2027. (The cast of the Canadian reality series has yet to be announced.)
“‘Summer House’ has become a beloved global franchise known for its authentic friendships, big personalities and the unforgettable moments that come from spending a summer together,” Erin Haskett, President and Executive Producer, Lark Productions, told THR. “We’re excited to build on that by bringing the Canadian summer experience to fans worldwide.”
The ‘Summer House Canada’ announcement comes just a day after Bravo’s OG ‘Summer House’ received its first Emmy nomination in the show’s 10-season history.
Following an eventful (and rather messy) Season 10, the reality series scored a nomination in the “Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program” category. (Netflix’s America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and Love on the Spectrum were also nominated in the category, along with MTV’s RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked and FX/Hulu’s Welcome to Wrexham, according to Deadline.)
While Bravo’s Vanderpump Rules nabbed consecutive Emmy nominations in this category in 2023 and 2024, the network’s last win for “Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program” was in 2008 for Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List, which also took home the Emmy in 2007.
According to Page Six, a new season of ‘Summer House’ is set to begin filming this coming weekend, without cast members (and current couple) West Wilson and Amanda Batula, who are not returning to the Bravo series for Season 11.
