Joy Duggar Recalls Husband Austin Forsyth Exchanging Words with “Frustrated” ‘Counting On’ Crew Member on Wedding Day

Austin Joy
“Austin’s gonna Austin, y’all!”

Joy Duggar Forsyth’s wedding was a day the former ‘Counting On’ star will never forget, though not for the reason you’d expect.

As you may remember, Joy and husband Austin Forsyth didn’t share their first kiss until after saying “I do” at the altar. However, Joy revealed this week that Austin actually shared another memorable exchange with someone on their big day– one which viewers never saw.

The 28-year-old recalled the off-camera incident on the latest episode of her and sister Jinger Duggar Vuolo’s ‘Call Your Sister’ podcast. As the sisters reflected on their respective wedding days– both of which were filmed for their family’s TLC series– Joy revealed that Austin exchanged some words with a “frustrated” crew member before exchanging vows with her.

“Not now, Joy, I’m busy!”

“Austin ended up having to have a conversation with one of the guys that had come in, he wasn’t normally on our crew,” Joy explained. “He came in ‘cause it was a big day. They had to have multiple people overseeing the different crews, so he was a guy that hadn’t been with us but a couple times.

“ … He was getting frustrated with Austin for taking his microphone off when he would talk to me,” she continued. “Austin was like, ‘Dude, this day is not about you. It’s not about the cameras. I’m getting married today, this is about me and Joy.’”

“What part of this story is supposed to shock us, Joy?”

Joy insisted that Austin “wasn’t disrespectful” during this exchange with the crew member and that his intent was to simply remind the man that, “this is [their] real life, this is not a production.” She also revealed that the crew member later came up to Austin to apologize for the incident.

“ … he was really sweet,” Joy said. “He came back later and he’s like, ‘I’m sorry, man. I was in the moment and I was trying to get my job done and you’re right, it’s your wedding day.’ And so, he was very kind about it … .”

“…and thank goodness he was, because I would’ve NEVER heard the end of it.”

In addition to her husband-to-be almost having it out with a crew member, Joy said there were “other stresses” that came with having her wedding day filmed for TV, including being rushed to do interviews when she just wanted to “enjoy doing [her] makeup with [her] sisters for the last time before [she] got married.”

“I feel like I was trying so hard to just live in the moment … ,” Joy said during the episode.

While Joy admitted that she loves being able to watch the footage back from her and Austin’s 2017 wedding, she also noted that the day didn’t feel as though it was entirely geared around her and Austin.

“ … there were so many things that didn’t go the exact way that I wanted [them] to,” she explained. “I felt like I was having my wedding day for their production almost sometimes [more] than about us.”
