Butch Baltierra to Star in ‘Teen Mom’ Special “Being Butch”: Watch Sneak Peek Clips!

"It sure took you long enough, MTV!"
“It sure took you long enough, MTV!”

For years, The Ashley has stated that MTV would be better off if they ditch the girls of Teen Mom OG and just focused the series on the real star of the show, Tyler Baltierra‘s dad, Butch Baltierra. It looks like the network has finally listened and is giving The Ashley (and legions of other fans) what they want– a full Butch special!

“Being Butch,” a one-hour special that will air Monday, July 18, will focus on Butch, just as Monday’s “Being Barbara” special focused on Teen Mom 2 star Barbara Evans. From the preview clips of the special released by MTV, we know that “Being Butch” will focus on Butch’s efforts to stay clean and build his relationship with his son, Tyler, and Tyler’s wife Catelynn Lowell

Butch, who was released from prison in August 2015 after a long stay, will also attempt to figure out what he wants from his current relationship.

In one sneak peek clip of “Being Butch,” Butch and his girlfriend, Nadine, discuss marriage. Butch’s son, Tyler, approves of Nadine but thinks that Butch should hold off on marrying anyone.

Later, Butch discusses his past issues with substance abuse, and comes to the realization that, in the past, he put drugs before his kids. Nadine tells it to Butch straight– encouraging him to go talk to a counselor to help him rebuild his relationships with his kids.

In another clip, Butch (who has taken Nadine’s advice and gone to therapy with Tyler) is talking to a counselor.

“I’m trying to go forward, I’m not trying to go back,” Butch says, as he’s obviously struggling to face his past actions. “I don’t want to go back because I was dumb, man.”

Tyler encourages Butch to watch a scene from an old episode of ‘Teen Mom’ in which Tyler is talking to the counselor about the lack of love he gets from his father. Butch is understandably brought to tears.

In a final clip, Butch talks about staying sober, and denies that he was ever addicted to crack cocaine.

Tyler and Catelynn both disagree, stating that they feel that Butch was addicted, and Tyler reminds his dad of a text that Butch sent to him during a binge that stated that Butch loved cocaine more than his son.

“I was emotionally and spiritually bankrupt,” Butch explains.

“Being Butch” airs Monday, July 18 on MTV!

Tyler Baltierra and his father have been working on improving their tumultuous relationship, but the process hasn’t been easy. In sneak peeks of Butch‘s upcoming special, Being Butch, the Teen Mom OG star reveals a shocking confession that once destroyed their relationship.

“I was never addicted to crack cocaine,” Butch said while talking to his son and daughter-in-law Catelynn Lowell. “I enjoyed doing it cause I thought I liked it. I liked that rush.”

Tyler, who has watched his father struggle with addiction all his life, was shocked by his admission.

“You said you weren’t addicted to crack cocaine? Is that what you just said?” the father of 1-year-old Novalee said. “Don’t you remember sending that text message? ‘I’m sorry to say I know this is bad but I do love cocaine more than you. I’m sorry.’”

Butch responded, “Because I kept using it. I told myself I must love this more than I do that. I was emotionally bankrupt.”

That’s when Tyler fired back, “That’s addiction! You’re substituting it with something else. It was weird to hear you say, ‘I was never addicted to crack cocaine.‘”

In another clip, Butch discusses the text message with his girlfriend Nadine.

“When I was locked up I went on a cocaine binge for three or four days,” he revealed. “Tyler said something to me and I said, ‘I love cocaine more than I do you.’ I didn’t mean it, but I was thinking maybe I do. I am out there for 4 or 5 days smoking this bull. It rocked them.”

When his girlfriend suggested they go to counseling, Butch refused to talk about his past as an addict because “the old guy is gone.”

In an attempt to make Butch open up, Tyler showed him a clip from a Teen Mom episode of Tyler discussing his father in therapy.

“I never did anything wrong to the guy so I don’t know why he isn’t here,” he said in the clip. “I don’t think it’s my fault, but if he did die I would be happier so I could just really say goodbye and let him go.”

Butch was bought to tears by the video.

  4. This former junkie is really grateful that the people I hurt have been so forgiving. The point of recovery isn’t so others will change their opinions of you- some people never will. That can feel discouraging, but it’s part of life. I’m glad to see the progress that Butch has made, although I miss his hair. Remember when he first got out of prison? It was shoulder length and beautiful. It was the same haircut I had when I was 14.

  5. I don’t understand where this die hard fan base comes for Butch & Barb, especially Butch. His best quality to me seems that he’s capable of saying nice, emotional things he thinks people want to hear, just like I imagine most junkies do. I’m not convinced there’s any redeeming qualities in him, if you go by his actions and not whatever he says in his filmed scenes on TV that he gets paid for, and if there are redeeming qualities are they really strong enough to compensate for the less desirable ones? I don’t get why this is entertainment, this fake reflective/therapy play acting. Bleh.

    1. I don’t get it either. Clearly they’ve never really be impacted by a lying, thieving, junky to think this guy’s so great. He’s a POS. Look at Catelynns 16 & Pregnant, god he was vile. Im glad I got rid of the junky who tried to drag me down too, I’ve never, ever regretted it. Catelynn and Tyler should try it, before it effects their daughter.

    2. I’m not so much a fan of ‘Butch’ as I am of ‘watching Butch’, if that helps at all.
Kind of like how people aren’t ‘pro-train wreck’ but they still sit and watch it go down.

    1. When I first read your comment, I thought you said this was the episode where he hit your family. I was wondering why you would be happy to watch that. But then again, maybe you don’t like your family much.
