Why Jinger Duggar is Suddenly ‘Allowed’ to Wear Pants: Her Husband Jeremy Vuolo Speaks Out

“Thanks, Jeremy!”
“No sweat. Just don’t ask to get on birth control or anything crazy like that, OK?”

The Duggar gals have spent their whole lives wearing long skirts and dresses so it’s no surprise that Jinger Duggar has raised some major eyebrows lately by daring to wear…PANTS! Jinger, who married Jeremy Vuolo in November 2016, appears to have her husband’s blessing to finally dress how she wants to.

When Jinger was photographed in March sashaying around town in shorts it literally made international news, as this was the first time any of the Duggar girls had been seen wearing shorts in public. Since then, Jinger has been photographed in slacks several times, even wearing them while attending an event with her dress-doning sisters.

Before getting married, Jinger only wore skirts and dresses, strictly adhering to her family’s dress code. However, now that she her “head of household” is her husband Jeremy, rather than her father Jim Bob, things have changed. In a recent sermon, Jeremy expressed why he is A-Ok with Jinger’s ‘risque’ fashion choice to wear pants and shorts.

“It is your liberty as to whether you dress modestly with a modest pair of pants, or with a skirt, or with a T-shirt, or with a blouse,” Jeremy said during a December 18 sermon at Grace Community Church in Laredo, Texas. “It is not your liberty, women, to wear sensual, seductive clothing that is designed to draw the attention of your brothers.”

Oh, Jeremy…you had us until that very last part! Considering Jinger’s brother is Josh Duggar, who famously did this to his sisters, that was probably not the best word he could have used.

Jinger, far right, shows off how fun pants can be while at an event with friends and her sisters…

“The emphasis of the gospel is not food or clothes,” Jeremy said in the sermon, according to Inquisitr. “Jesus does not save people to make them wear skirts.”

The Duggars have expressed in the past that they feel dresses and skirts are more modest than pants, and that wearing modest clothing helps prevent the girls from ‘defrauding’ men.  (The Duggars define defrauding as “stirring up desires [in men] that cannot be righteously fulfilled.”) They believe in covering themselves from “neck to knees.”

“My daughters are the second generation of modest dressing in this family,” Jinger’s mother Michelle Duggar has said. “They’ve grown up being dressed modestly, and in clothes that are definitely more feminine apparel. I’ve told my daughters this has been a joyful journey for me to learn what my Lord has called me to. I really feel like the Lord is impressing upon me that I should be modest in what I wear. And also, that I really should be defining who I am as a woman by choosing to wear dresses and skirts.”

Jinger’s sister Jessa Seewald certainly isn’t on-board with all the pants-wearing going on in her family. She has continued to sport only dresses and skirts since getting married in 2014, and recently announced that she will be giving a presentation on modesty in June. The Ohio-based event will allow girls to hear why Jessa chooses to maintain a ‘modest lifestyle.’

  1. I honestly think that Jeremy is right, Jesus didn’t save people just to make them wear skirts. Although I wish that Jinger would have been the one to speak out and make headlines about her OWN fashion choices.

  2. I’m truly shocked. After all those years of wearing dresses and skirts now how does she think people feels about her. I have worn dresses and skirts all my life and I am 74 years old. Her mother and father were bringing her up just like the bible says. Women are to be women and not4 by wearing men clothing.

  3. Shes still covered from neck to knees. Life is more comfortable in pants sometimes….love that she feels confident enough to know it’s her choice.

    1. I agree that pants are nice, and she’s still wearing them in a modest fashion. I’m torn on this issue, because I’ve recently switched over to wearing skirts and I love the femininity of it. I always used to think pants covered more, so how were they not more modest, but the issue, I think lies in two directions: Pants show off the behind. Skirts cover it and don’t accentuate it. And as someone mockingly stated below (but hit the nail on the head by mistake), pants are manly. Women are not men. There are indeed some situations that I should think pants are more appropriate. Horse riding, for example. Sports.

  4. It’s my liberty to wear what ever I want. Remember that nifty concept of free will? Ugh these bible thumping idiots

  5. Well his sermon is strange but it still is a small improvement. At least one of them married ever so slightly better.

  6. I’m confused. Jinger’s pants are “not modest” but Jill’s leggings are A ok? What’s the difference?

  7. I’m wearing jeans my coworker is wearing a dress, I’m showing off WAY less skin and her skirt goes to mid calf. Explain how a skirt is more modest than pants?

/not shaming my coworker, just giving a real world example.

  8. I live in an area of the U.S. with many of the Pentecostal religion. It’s not really about modesty here. It’s about “dressing like a man”. Men wear pants because they’re manly. I think it’s the same for the Duggars. Remember when they went to Scotland and some of the locals tried to get Jim Bob to wear a kilt? He pitched a big fit because MEN DON’T WEAR SKIRTS!

That’s all that this is about! Not modesty at all!

  9. It’s weird that all of this modest dressing didn’t stop Jinger’s brother from sexually assaulting her and her sisters. The Duggars avoid revealing clothes and scaremonger about trans people when the real danger was the good little religious boy in their house. Turns out he didn’t care what the girls were wearing. Hmm…

    1. Clearly Josh wasn’t “good little religious boy,” so don’t use that phrase. If Josh had been a true Christian man, he would never have behaved that way. I’m so sick of people bashing Christians and I don’t need to see it here, either. REAL Christians don’t behave in that manner, so stop addressing such people as Christians. Christ deserves better. That having been said, I definitely hope Josh has straightened himself out before the Lord, and all are sinners, so I hope he’s faced his sin, admitted it, and turned from it.

  10. Isn’t is truly sad how this is big news in 2017?! I know they live differently from us but there is nothing more modest in a skirt than it is in pants. It actually can show a lot more if wind blows. (So they should wear skin tight skirts then which is surely uncomfortable). Don’t get me started on their “modest swimwear”. Ugliest thing I have ever seen.

  11. Wow, Jeremy allowed Jinger to wear pants. How kind of him! He appears to have the same view on how women should dress in case the pervert men think dirty thoughts. If a man is going to think dirty no amount of clothing will change him. They just set back the rights of women 100 years.
    What a screwed up family!

  12. This family continues to be idiots. Do they really believe a female is more covered if a skirt is worn covering ones knees than a pair of pants that covers more of the leg? I hope she continues to dress in a manner she is comfortable with.

  13. Am I the only one who think their whole “modesty” spiel is hypocritical when they spend hours curling their hair and painting layers of heavy make up on?

    1. I read the girls’ book when it first came out and I believe their reasoning behind the hair and makeup was something along drawing men’s eyes towards their faces rather than their bodies. I think they also mentioned something about the Bible saying that a woman’s hair is her crown. It’s been years since I read it, though, so I’m not sure exactly what they said.

  14. April:You know what, I think men are better than women.

    Ann: She’s kidding.

April: No, I’m not. They provide for us, and we must obey them because they are our masters.

    Leslie: April, stop it.

April: Leslie, you’ll never land a beau with that domineering tone. We must always walk behind the men.

  15. Defrauding men is when they are not showing off their goods. Hidding the stuff men like to see under a bushel is selfish and sinful, not to mention against the laws of nature. Men are admirers of eye candy, always have been.

  16. I don’t understand why a dress/skirt that only hits your knees, still shows off your calves, and has the propensity to blow up in the wind and reveal your granny-panties is more modest than a pair of pants that covers your complete leg and has about no chance of revealing your underthings (unless the seam rips). Is it because boys are more attracted to fabric covered legs than bare skin legs?

  17. I remember reading an article saying Michelle would routinely not dress modestly in her youth. Not that I care but she can’t say they are second generation modest dressers. Maybe on their dad’s side lol.

      1. That’s the story I was thinking about but I couldn’t recall if it was a bikini or just scandalous, devil-worshipping shorts.

        1. Yeah, Michelle was actually NORMAL before she met JB. He made her ditch pants and bikinis because he doesn’t want other men to look at his wife. He is a control freak and is controlling his daughters now.

    1. And Michelle and Jim Bob kissed before marriage, plus she kissed OTHER people!! Clearly, Michelle is a temptress who seduced JB with all of her bikini wearing and kissing; poor guy had no idea what hit him.

      1. Y’all, Michelle was a cheerleader for gods sake! No offense to cheerleaders, but even high school uniforms aren’t all that modest, what with your bare shoulders and visible ankles.

    2. She now dresses modestly, and it’s been over half of her lifetime, so hence the second generation comment.
