New Reality Show ‘Murder House Flip’ Will Focus On Renovating Homes Where Tragic Events Have Taken Place

Crime scene tape will soon be replaced by painter’s tape…or something. (This is not one of the actual houses on the show, by the way…)

If house flipping and true crime are among your TV show genres of choice, Sony Pictures Television has you covered with their new series Murder House Flip.

“A new and totally unconventional series called ‘Murder House Flip’ is coming soon, and it’s exactly what it sounds like: a home-makeover show that takes on houses where a murder happened. Kind of creepy, but also pretty intriguing,” TODAY reports.

“We are thrilled to bring this one-of-a-kind series to life and dive into a world that combines America’s two biggest TV obsessions: true crime and home renovation,” said Elyse Seder, senior vice president of alternative and syndicated programming for Sony Pictures Television, in a press release.

While most home renovation shows focus on removing wallpaper and carpet, ‘Murder House Flip’ will also involve removing blood stains and shattered glass. Show producer Josh Berman said he hopes the show will “bring healing and solace to families living in the aftermath of tragic events by transforming dark places into healthy spaces.”

According to TODAY, ‘Murder House Flip’ will feature, “a colorful cast of forensic specialists, spiritual healers, and high-end renovation experts. They’ll uncover the crimes, shocking secrets and scandalous history of the homes.”

In addition to Berman, who is also a producer of CSI, the show is being produced by Chris King, producer of Penny Dreadful, and author Katherine Ramsland.

It has not yet been announced which houses will be featured on the show, or what crimes occurred at the homes being renovated.

Given the show’s unique premise, it’s no surprise that Twitter is already abuzz with anticipation.

“My 2 favorite kind of shows in 1 #MurderHouseFlip #HomeRenovationShows #MurderShows” one person wrote.

“Already have it set to record! Fan from day one. Excited! Love it!” another wrote.

‘Murder House Flip’ will premiere on the mobile streaming service Quibi in April 2020. According to Vulture Quibi is, “the mobile-centric, short-form streaming-video platform, founded by former Disney and DreamWorks chief Jeffrey Katzenberg.”

Guillermo del Torro and Steven Spielberg are also slated to bring some horror projects to the channel. In addition,Chrissy Teigen, Idris Elba, Tyra Banks and Jennifer Lopez will be starring in unscripted shows to Quibi. MTV will be reviving Punk’d and Singled Out for Quibi as well.

  1. Am I the only one who asked the estate agent of anyone had ever died in the houses I was looking at?! They said no, but the reality is, someone could have done many years before!! I get freaked out by things like this. My father in law sadly passed away 2 weeks ago, in his kitchen. I can’t bring myself to go in there!

    1. Nope! I asked before I bought my house. It was built in 1942.

Before I bought this one, we were looking at a farmhouse that was built in 1835. Even had a family cemetery on the property (18 acres of land) that had someone last interred in 2010. It was 3 stories and GORGEOUS, but like many very old houses, had an oil tank under it that hadn’t been filled with cement when it was no longer being used and was collapsing, making the house lean. The family that owned it (descendants of the family that built it), didn’t want to provide an engineers report when we asked about the degree of the lean in some rooms, and the fact that the last person who put an offer on it, backed out 5 days before closing rang too many bells for us to drop an offer, even when they came down in price by 10k. My son said if we bought that house, holiday get together’s would be at his, because he would not sleep there, lol. 🤣

That house DEFINITELY had people pass in it. There are civil war markers all around the area we live.. so chances are the property saw some shit back in the day.

Also.. I am sorry for your loss. 😟

      1. Bruja, Thankyou. It was a huge shock, as he was only 62, and we had seen him the day before at a family wedding. He was out of sorts, but we thought he was just tired. It turned out he had a massive stroke. So sad. Unfortunately my husband (who’s only 34) found out he had suffered a stroke after having an MRI for his migraines- so he’s quit smoking, started eating healthier and taken up cycling.
My house was built in the 1950’s, but lots of my friends houses are from the early 1900’s. Growing up, my best friend lived in a beautiful, old cottage, which was three cottages made into one. That was built in the 1700’s! Another friend used to babysit a family, and the girl used to say she had seen people walking through the wall. They did some research, and where she saw them, was where doors used to be… scary stuff! Xx

        1. Damn. 62 is relatively young, I’m so very sorry.

Your husband on the other hand is only a few years older than my daughter, so yikes! I am so glad to read that he’s changed his life style!! You never realize that Death always has 1 greedy, bony fucking hand wrapped around your heart, ready to squeeze at any moment.. until he makes his presence known in some unpleasant way. Deny that bastard the glee of taking your husband for years to come!

The old, old houses are my favorite. They’re solid and built well and laugh in the face of storms that make newer homes look like a poorly constructed house of cards, BUT- I firmly believe that history comes with a price that may well give you chills, feelings of being watched, nightmares, or straight feelings of terror.

          1. I’ve been ill since I was 11, initially with Chrones and now have a plethora of conditions. I’ve tried not to let it stop me from living my life, but also allow myself not to feel guilty if I’m ill and rest. I’ve lost many hospital roomies over the years, it does make you live differently.
You’d love it where I live, a little village in Cheshire, England, called Nantwich. Google it, it’s full of old, Tudor buildings, and many ghosts!! Whilst there are always new build houses popping up, there are so many stunning houses around 150 years old that are full of character (and probably ghoulish characters too!) xx

  2. We almost bought a house where a murder suicide happened in the living room. I was completely open to it since it had been blessed several times. However, the stain on the floor as you first walk in was a haunting reminder I couldn’t get past. Had the realtor taken care of that prior we probably would have been able to deal with it. The place was awesome and worth a hell of a lot more than it was listed for. Just the damn stain was something I didnt want to personally deal with as it was so bad and eerie.

    1. Depending on how much the discount was, I’d have likely bought the house and had that floor replaced before moving in.

I’m intrigued by this sort of thing. My daughter currently lives in a house she believes is not only haunted, but possibly has a possible demonic entity there as well. The house has been blessed by more than a few different religious denominations.. and still, the issues persist.

She has stated that she saw a woman in black, “wearing her face“, more than once. She says she’s removed mirrors from the bedrooms in the house as people who’ve slept in rooms with mirrors have awoken with night terrors, screaming.

It’s intriguing, perhaps more so if you’re not the one actually living with it.

I’ll definitely tune into this. It’s not for everyone, and I doubt they’ll air/film/flip anything too recent, or anything they haven’t talked to family members of home owners/occupants, etc that may be against it, or at least, I’d hope they wouldn’t.

  3. I’d always thought that the county contracted cleaning companies to clean up these kinds of scenes, but in some places at least, it’s not the case. One of my best friends had her mother brutally raped and murdered by my friends younger sisters ex boyfriend (luckily she wasn’t home,) but he attacked the mother. My friend has to find a cleaning company to come and clean her moms blood off walls and who knows what else everywhere, then attempt to get paid back by tne state of New Jersey. Last I heard, she hadn’t gotten a dime back yet. Fucked up.

    1. Holy shit. That’s horrific. 😨 That’s tragic as hell, I’m so sorry for your friend and her family.

I was friends with a girl, egads, 23 years ago now, who was addicted to pain pills. She got her boyfriend into them and he ended up over-dosing one night after they’d both passed out on the floor of their living-room in their apartment in West Los Angeles.

The apartment owner ended up suing her for the cost of the clean up.

    1. If they exploit a loved one’s pain, yes, that’d be shitty. I hope that doesn’t happen.

However, there are many shows that are focused on horrible crimes. “The Autopsy Of..”, “The First 48“, “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile“, “American Crime Story: The People vs OJ Simpson“, “Belief: The Possession Of Janet Moses“, “The Act“.. the list goes on and on.

Sadly, murder and violent crime happen.. has since the creation of man. The only things that have changed are the ways people examine and discuss it.

The good news is, you don’t have to tune in if it’s not something you’re interested in.
