JoJo Siwa has a
bow bone to pick with Nickelodeon.
On Tuesday, the former Dance Moms star and Season 30 Dancing with the Stars contestant took to Twitter to call out the company for allegedly not allowing her to perform songs from her new film The J Team at her upcoming tour.
“I go out on tour in January,” JoJo told fans. “My movie musical was just released (with 6 new original songs) … Nickelodeon told me today that I’m not allowed to perform/add any of the new songs from the film into my show. These are MY songs, MY voice, MY writing. Does this seem fair???”
(JoJo is, in fact, credited as a songwriter on all of the songs featured on ‘The J Team’ soundtrack– credited under her real name, Joelle Joanie Siwa– though other songwriters are listed on each of the tunes, as well.)
The 18-year-old went on to argue there “is no reason that this music should not be included,” before then accusing Nickelodeon of treating her “only as a brand.”
“ … Working for a company as a real human being treated as only a brand is fun until it’s not,” she wrote.
JoJo continue expressing her frustrations on Wednesday, telling fans she wanted her upcoming concert to be “the best it can possibly be,” and again, calling out Nickelodeon for not treating her like a human being.
“I want my concert to be the BEST it can possibly be, and I want to perform the songs that YOU have been waiting to hear for 2 years,” she said. “Having the music from my movie in my show is important to me, I wish it was important to Nickelodeon. Remember, I’m a human, not just a brand.”
A number of JoJo’s fans– and even some celebrities– showed their support for JoJo on social media, including JoJo’s former dance coach Abby Lee Miller of ‘Dance Moms.’
Abby reposted JoJo’s original tweet on Instagram, adding “#IStandWithJojo.”
Nickelodeon has yet to respond to JoJo’s statement, however, the company is currently still promoting ‘The J Team’ soundtrack on social media.

It’s hard to take her seriously when she looks like a human cupcake.
This girl needs to grow up, and take that fucking monstrosity off her head, she looks rediculas.
She’s a brand and that’s all,
You are a brand.
Your brand is JoJo.
You stopped being a person the second you/ Jessalynn signed a deal with whomever to license and market your name and likeness.
You belong to the big corporations. They own you. They tell you your every move bc thats what you signed up for.
Get better managers, get better lawyers.
I don’t think this is about Nickelodeon not letting her perform the songs…they are the ones who backed the new movie, why wouldn’t they encourage her to promote them? She’s older now and wants to strip herself of this childish brand and branch out into something more “grown”. What better way to do that than to bite the hand that feeds you? 🙄 Doubt she realizes that it’s going to take a lot of hard work to shed this image, and she may never be able to. She’s been rainbow and glitter JoJo her entire life and that’s all people know her as….better to be gracious and part ways with Nickelodeon/kid stuff in time rather than to cause trouble because you’re impatient. They made her, whether she likes it or not.
I dunno, I find Jojo Siwa scary .. Like she has a dark vibe around her. I kinda want to know who she really is because she actually behave like she’s an image/brand and not a real person ..
My employer won’t let me perform my original songs at work either. They say it’s “disruptive to the office environment”, that it “sounds like a goat being tortured”, and that “neighbors have called the police.”
Have you taken your beef to Twitter yet?
It’s not official until you do that.
Boo hoo. It’s so cute when child stars grow up and cry into their bags of money about how unfair their lives are once they don’t get their way. Spare us, please.
