I just started watching the Platt Family in Season 4 but I went back and hence watched every episode. At first, I thought that Olivia was very intelligent and I could absolutely see her point in about everything but now, she is starting to really annoy me! Her attitude at the gravesite should have never happened and I would not have liked it either! She should have stayed home! I can’t stand Kim period! I can’t stand looking at her and absolute believe if anyone is full if evil spirits it’s her! Has anyone noticed that she never sheds a tear or apologizes for anything she has caused? In every scene where her children are pouring their hearts out and crying, all she can say is, “I know”. I wonder if she can really feel love? Nothing seems to rattle her. No tears, no regrets. She’s now trying to live a life she preached against all her kids life. Her kids are being understanding and I don’t think the mess she has made of their childhood is deserving if their forgiveness. Her need to control everything is sickening! Olivia is justified by her feelings of this sick individual but if she is going to stay married she’s going to have to learn how to he apart of family functions and avoid Kim in away not to ruin everyone elses time.
I don’t watch WtP, but have been reading up on the Reddit.
I’ve read many opinions like yours Nancy, people liked Liv in the beginning because clearly Kim is a narcissist and her faults are easy to see. So, from just reading, the Plaths are completely in a toxic family disfunction with Kim as the “neck” of the family. Olivia had her own issues going in with her fundie family the Meggs. I wonder if it was easier for Liv to see the dysfunction so much more clearly in a different family than her own, or vis versa – knowing about it in your own family is terrifying to realize it about your *new* family. Especially if you married young to escape your own toxic upbringing… to get roped into the Plaths!
Where I think the issue gets weird, is Olivia’s reactions in certain situations. Since so much has come out about Kim using Ethan’s CC and identity, and being in personal contact with a *vulnerable* 16 y/o girl (Liv)… it’s very hard to not have major sympathy and empathy for Olivia. Look, I’m sold on Kim being a narcissist and she’s playing the long game while training her flying monkeys…
but Olivia needs to realize there are things she cannot control, or she becomes what she is so desperate to get away from. She is young and can learn, Ethan seems destined to return back to mommy Kim because she’s emotional stunted him and now Liv is the easy scapegoat bc she’s set boundaries. I don’t have a dog in this fight, but I’ve dealt with narcissists, you will NEVER win, whatever you think you want. Love? They never loved you or anyone outside of themselves to begin with. When you’re young, before you have autonomy and can tell them *NO*, they love bomb you. You are an means to an end. Once you aren’t in their graces, you’re the fucking devil and they will smear you, often playing the innocent victim, to anyone willing to listen.
I see so much of this is what Kim is doing to Olivia, I’m sure I’m biased. Even those kids who turned against Liv, that’s to stay in favor of Kim – who, for better or worse, is their MOTHER. Olivia will lose this war because Kim has decades of experience on her and she just doesn’t give a shite about anyone else. I think Olivia actually cares.
I agree! Best day of my life was when my mother in law kicked me out of the family for not answering her phone call.
You wouldn’t believe the stories I could tell about her. I finally divorced her son and now the family likes me and not him and his new wife.
I will never ever forget how they made me feel all those years. I just wanted to belong. I totally understand Olivia feelings because I get that sick feeling in my stomach when I watch those scenes, like I used to feel. I never like Kim or her husband. Ethan said your the neck that turns his head was so true.
Think about it, they weren’t allowed to see their little brothers or sisters. They threw Micah and Moriah out. I’m not even going to say anything about the tragic death of that little boy.
I think they made the older kids raise the younger ones and to cook and clean. Just like the Duggars.
