End of An Era: Len Goodman Announces He’s Leaving ‘Dancing With The Stars’ After 17 Years

“Time for me to waltz into retirement!”

After 31 Seasons and 17 years, Len Goodman is saying goodbye to the Dancing With the Stars ballroom.

The longtime judge announced his departure during Monday’s episode, telling viewers that he will be leaving the show following next week’s season finale.

“I’ve been with the show since it started in 2005 and it has been a huge pleasure to be a part of such a wonderful show, but I’ve decided I’d like to spend more time with my grandchildren and family back in Britain,” he said. “I cannot thank you enough, my ‘Dancing With the Stars’ family.

“It’s been such a wonderful experience for me, and I’m looking forward so much to next week’s finale,” he continued. “I’m sure it’s going to be absolutely brilliant.”

Len’s announcement was met with hugs from fellow judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Derek Hough, followed by a standing ovation from the crowd.

“Any chance you can take Tyra with you?”

“Everyone is on their feet for you giving you the standing ovation that you deserve,” said host Tyra Banks, who called Len “a living legend.” Tyra also noted that Len judged many of the pros on the show throughout the years–- prior to ‘DWTS’–- including fellow judge, Derek.

” …you’ve inspired generations of dancers around the entire globe through your passion, through your expertise and through your laser-focus eye, and they are going to carry on that commitment to excellence forever,” Tyra added.

The Season 31 finale of ‘Dancing With the Stars’ airs Monday, November 21, at 8 p.m. ET on Disney+
