Jax Taylor Announces He’s “Stepping Away” from ‘The Valley’ After Season 2 to Focus on His Sobriety & Mental Health

It’s officially time to retire that hoodie, Jax.

Jax Taylor is exiting a Bravo series for the second time in less than five years– this time to focus on his sobriety and mental health.

In a statement to Us Weekly, The Valley star revealed that, “after an incredibly challenging year” and “many honest conversations” with his team and show producers, he has decided that he will be “stepping away from the next season of ‘The Valley.’”

Yeah, the number one PROBLEM.

“Right now, my focus needs to be on my sobriety, my mental health, and coparenting,” he explained. “Taking this time is necessary for me to become the best version of myself – especially for our son, Cruz.”

As fans know, this season of ‘The Valley’ has documented Jax and wife Brittany Cartwright’s hostile split, beginning in the Season 2 premiere when Brittany revealed to viewers that during one of her and Jax’s arguments, Jax threw a piece of furniture that hit her in the knee, punched holes in the walls of their Valley Village home and screamed at her while their four-year-old son Cruz was in the next room.

Viewers also saw Jax– who went public about his decades-long cocaine addiction prior to the premiere– seek treatment at an inpatient rehab facility, where he continued to rage-text Brittany and admit to spying on her through cameras placed throughout their once-shared home.

Jax’s abhorrent actions this season had already resulted in him being forced to cancel his multi-city podcast tour in June amid an onslaught of backlash for his on-screen behavior; It was also revealed last month that a fan had launched a Change.org petition calling out the former Vanderpump Rules star’s history of “deeply concerning and offensive” behavior, while demanding that “networks and producers take responsibility by disengaging from promoting such behavior.”

The Change.org petition calling for Jax’s firing last month…

The petition– which had racked up nearly 14,000 signatures by the time Jax announced that he was “stepping away” from ‘The Valley’– noted that Jax has been accused of making racist and homophobic remarks over the years and argued that the once-fired Bravo star has exhibited “problematic drug and alcohol abuse,” as well as a “lack of respect for women.”

Brittany has yet to comment on her soon-to-be ex-husband’s exit from ‘The Valley.’ However, Andy Cohen gave his thoughts on Jax’s exit during Thursday’s episode of his SiriusXM radio show Andy Cohen Live.

“I’m very pleased with his decision and I think it is reading the room well and I think the most important thing is that I hope that he can work on all of his issues, and this comes up at the Reunion,” Andy said. “I have kind of a serious conversations with him about his need for control and his anger issues and what it’s gonna take to get to a better place with Brittany and, you know, in the world, and I hope that he takes the time to lean into this away from the cameras…. He seems very committed from our conversations to his sobriety, and I hope that time away from the cameras will further encourage that and further encourage him to get it together.”

New episodes of ‘The Valley’ air Tuesdays on Bravo.

  1. No conceivable way Jax would walk away from what he calls “his show” willingly. He was Facetiming in from rehab so he’d get paid for appearing on episodes. Nice to see Bravo finally do the right thing, tho.

  2. good riddance ~ buh bye now! 👋🏻👋🏻
also, i’ve read (several times) that bravo allows cast members to say they left of their own accord, even if they were sacked. seems fairly obvious that’s the case here. and also the first time he ‘stepped away’. 🙄

    1. I just read “Bravo is playing with fire and could be liable for not firing Jax Taylor from the Valley” this coming from a lawyer. then it read he was forced to resign to avoid getting fired. But the article also said more or less if he got his shit together he could come back.
