Nev Schulman & Max Joseph Confirm ‘Catfish’ Has Been Cancelled; Fans Call Out Nev for Not Mentioning Co-host Kamie Crawford in Announcement

“Not cool, Nev.”

Catfish: The TV Show has officially been cancelled.

Show host Nev Schulman and former co-host Max Joseph announced on Tuesday that after more than a decade, the MTV series that explored deceptive online romances is done, with Max telling fans, “that’s a wrap on ‘Catfish.’”

“So yeah, after 12 years, almost 300 episodes and just a lot of traveling around this incredible country, a lot of phone calls, a lot of FaceTimes, a lot of reverse image searches … ‘Catfish’ has officially been cancelled,” Nev told fans.

After Max hinted that the reality series may just be “on pause,” he revealed that he was actually planning to return to the show for what would’ve been the 10th season.

“I was about to come back!” Max said, to which Nev added, “I know, we were trying!”

As fans of ‘Catfish’ may recall, Max– who was Nev’s original co-host– left ‘Catfish’ in 2018, after which Kamie Crawford and other celebrities/public figures stepped in to co-host in his absence. Kamie went on to be become Nev’s permanent co-host in Season 8, appearing on nearly 100 episodes of the show before announcing her exit in 2024, according to Variety.

This week, Nev told fans that “’Catfish’ as we’ve known it is over,” while recounting the “incredible journey it’s been.”

“First of all, huge, huge thank you to our crew … I mean, too many people to list, but the dedication, the patience, the commitment to making sure everything was exactly what it needed to be,” Nev said. “ … seriously, the crew of this show is not only just an incredible crew, they’re our family, they’re some of my best friends and I love you guys. So thank you so much for all of your incredible hard work.”

Nev and Max also thanked ‘Catfish’ fans for making the show “worth continuing to do.”

“ … it’s been really heartwarming to hear from you guys and just to know what the show means to you,” Max said.

“And to have you share your stories with us all these years,” Nev added. “I mean, that’s what the show was– it was you guys … thank you for being a part of this, for turning what was an idea and a documentary into a global conversation about curiosity, mental health, happiness, compassion and just really hopefully setting a higher standard for how we should treat people and treat ourselves.”

Max also took a moment in the video to give Nev credit for the work he put into the series over the years.

“ … congrats to you,” Max said. “No honestly, over a decade on cable television in this day and age, I mean, this was it. This was the last decade in cable television and you did it … with a little help from me and some other people. But congrats to you, man.”

Soon after Nev posted his video to social media, many viewers of the show took the comments to point out that while thanking Max, ‘Catfish’ fans and the show’s crew, he failed to thank Kamie.

“Would you believe me if I told you the camera on my phone suddenly stopped working before I was able to give you a shout out?”

“They didn’t even thank [Kamie]???” one fan commented, with another adding, “No mention of Kamie is interesting. Sad the show is over. What a great run!”

“Kamie not being here doesn’t sit right with my spirit,” another fan commented. “Great run though, gonna miss ‘Catfish’… It’s my comfort show.”

“I absolutely love the show but [Kamie] was one of the best additions to the show so how we just going to not thank her????” another wrote. “She gave a REAL female approach to many situations on the show. Nev and Kamie combo was the best.”

More than 10 hours after Nev posted his video, he finally returned to the comment section to thank his former co-host.

“And a HUGE thank you to Kamie too of course!” Nev wrote.

While Nev didn’t announce the ‘Catfish’ cancellation until Tuesday, many fans of the show had already suspected as much after Nev revealed weeks ago that he was beginning a career in real estate and would be working alongside his dad in New York City.

Kamie has yet to comment on the ‘Catfish’ cancellation; however, you can watch Nev and Max’s official announcement below.

  1. Catfish ran its course at least 4 years ago. It was nothing but fake stories and the same crap regurgitated week after week. I’m only surprised that it took this long for it to be canceled.
