Kail Lowry Insists She Didn’t Get “Her Start” from MTV or ‘Teen Mom’: “To Say That Is F**ked Up!”

“It’s not like I was a pregnant teenager who was basically homeless when I first got on MTV…oh, wait…”

Kail Lowry recently got angry at fans who say she has forgotten where she came from— namely ‘Teen Mom,’ the show that made her famous 16 years ago. Kail went on to insist that the only thing she got from being on the reality show was a platform, and that she should be the one credited for becoming a success.

While Live on TikTok over the weekend, Kail was asked if ‘Teen Mom’ is really being cancelled (as cast member Cory Wharton randomly claimed last week). Kail made it clear that she had no clue, since she has been off the show since 2022, but stated that she also doesn’t care if it’s been cancelled or not. This comment prompted a fan to tell Kail not to “forget where she came from”— a comment that set the mother of seven off.

“I didn’t ‘come’ from ‘Teen Mom,'” she insisted, adding that all of her success is due to her own actions and not because she was on MTV.

“We don’t get any credit? Wow, this hurts worse than the time Farrah called me white trash.” (Sigh.)

“I am thankful for the opportunities; I am thankful I was able to launch a podcast. I was thankful that I was able to pay for my college education and get a degree,” she said. “I’m thankful for being able to write my books and having a platform– absolutely.

“But I did not come from ‘Teen Mom.’ To say that is f**ked up!”

“Even if Jo hadn’t held my foot all those years on ’16 and Pregnant,’ I’d still be a success!”

Kail then stated that MTV (and its parent companies) made “millions upon millions of dollars more” than she did from her story.

“So, yes, I am thankful for the opportunity, but MTV is not where I came from,” she insisted. “MTV didn’t write my books; MTV didn’t do those things.”

She did acknowledge that MTV provided her a platform but insisted that she was the one who used the platform for good.

“It’s all about how you use that platform. I used mine. Some of the girls [from the show] don’t use theirs. Some of them don’t start other businesses or develop other relationships or whatever,” she said.

“I put the WaWa on the map as a sneaky link meet-up spot, OK!?”

“MTV was not my start. I just was a stepping stone for me,” she added. “MTV made way more money on my story than I ever did. So [someone telling me] ‘don’t forget where you came from’ is kind of crazy.”

As fans know, Kail left ‘Teen Mom 2’ in 2022, and did not participate in Teen Mom Family Reunion or Teen Mom: The Next Chapter (except for a guest appearance alongside Tyler Baltierra and Catelynn Lowell).

This is not the first time Kail has slammed fans’ claims that she is where she is today because of being on ‘Teen Mom.’ In September, she got angry that people on TikTok were “discrediting the work” that she did to better her life.

“Yes, MTV helped launch me and propel me into different avenues and different directions. But at the end of the day, there are so many girls in that show that didn’t necessarily start a business or a podcast or get a degree or whatever,” she said at the time. “And [I’m] not knocking them at all, I’m just saying, like, yes, MTV gave me a cushion, but what is the alternative? The alternative would have been for me to sit on welfare, stay on welfare.

“Or you can always just sit on the couch! It’s worked for me!”

Kail stated that, instead of abusing the welfare system and taking it from someone who needed, she instead “turned around and donated and gave back.”

Kail has made it no secret that she wishes to escape her ‘Teen Mom’ past. In April 2025, she told People that her goal is to get people to forget she was ever on the show.

“I hope to potentially keep building [my] brands to the point where people don’t necessarily remember me as someone on ‘Teen Mom,’” she said, adding that she felt she was “pigeonholed” by the show’s editing.

  1. Girl…GIRL… you popped out 173 children on MTV…and you think we’re going to forget that’s how you got your start?! 😂

  2. She is so quick to be defensive JUST to be defensive. It is common knowledge that she came from mtv. She was not famous or rich in any way prior to 16 and pregnant. That is not a secret or a lie.
She needs to stop being so combative and stay quiet or grow up and say yes I did come from mtv and I am thankful for the blessings my kids and I have as a result.

  3. This woman is getting dumber by the day.
Yes, Kail, you took the opportunities and made a life out of them (something most of your cast members didn’t) but you absolutely CAME from MTV. If it wasn’t for MTV, you would be a single mom with multiple baby daddies, working 3 minimum wage jobs to pay rent and community college.
