Kail Lowry Insists She Didn’t Get “Her Start” from MTV or ‘Teen Mom’: “To Say That Is F**ked Up!”

“It’s not like I was a pregnant teenager who was basically homeless when I first got on MTV…oh, wait…”

Kail Lowry recently got angry at fans who say she has forgotten where she came from— namely ‘Teen Mom,’ the show that made her famous 16 years ago. Kail went on to insist that the only thing she got from being on the reality show was a platform, and that she should be the one credited for becoming a success.

While Live on TikTok over the weekend, Kail was asked if ‘Teen Mom’ is really being cancelled (as cast member Cory Wharton randomly claimed last week). Kail made it clear that she had no clue, since she has been off the show since 2022, but stated that she also doesn’t care if it’s been cancelled or not. This comment prompted a fan to tell Kail not to “forget where she came from”— a comment that set the mother of seven off.

“I didn’t ‘come’ from ‘Teen Mom,'” she insisted, adding that all of her success is due to her own actions and not because she was on MTV.

“We don’t get any credit? Wow, this hurts worse than the time Farrah called me white trash.” (Sigh.)

“I am thankful for the opportunities; I am thankful I was able to launch a podcast. I was thankful that I was able to pay for my college education and get a degree,” she said. “I’m thankful for being able to write my books and having a platform– absolutely.

“But I did not come from ‘Teen Mom.’ To say that is f**ked up!”

“Even if Jo hadn’t held my foot all those years on ’16 and Pregnant,’ I’d still be a success!”

Kail then stated that MTV (and its parent companies) made “millions upon millions of dollars more” than she did from her story.

“So, yes, I am thankful for the opportunity, but MTV is not where I came from,” she insisted. “MTV didn’t write my books; MTV didn’t do those things.”

She did acknowledge that MTV provided her a platform but insisted that she was the one who used the platform for good.

“It’s all about how you use that platform. I used mine. Some of the girls [from the show] don’t use theirs. Some of them don’t start other businesses or develop other relationships or whatever,” she said.

“I put the WaWa on the map as a sneaky link meet-up spot, OK!?”

“MTV was not my start. I just was a stepping stone for me,” she added. “MTV made way more money on my story than I ever did. So [someone telling me] ‘don’t forget where you came from’ is kind of crazy.”

As fans know, Kail left ‘Teen Mom 2’ in 2022, and did not participate in Teen Mom Family Reunion or Teen Mom: The Next Chapter (except for a guest appearance alongside Tyler Baltierra and Catelynn Lowell).

This is not the first time Kail has slammed fans’ claims that she is where she is today because of being on ‘Teen Mom.’ In September, she got angry that people on TikTok were “discrediting the work” that she did to better her life.

“Yes, MTV helped launch me and propel me into different avenues and different directions. But at the end of the day, there are so many girls in that show that didn’t necessarily start a business or a podcast or get a degree or whatever,” she said at the time. “And [I’m] not knocking them at all, I’m just saying, like, yes, MTV gave me a cushion, but what is the alternative? The alternative would have been for me to sit on welfare, stay on welfare.

“Or you can always just sit on the couch! It’s worked for me!”

Kail stated that, instead of abusing the welfare system and taking it from someone who needed, she instead “turned around and donated and gave back.”

Kail has made it no secret that she wishes to escape her ‘Teen Mom’ past. In April 2025, she told People that her goal is to get people to forget she was ever on the show.

“I hope to potentially keep building [my] brands to the point where people don’t necessarily remember me as someone on ‘Teen Mom,’” she said, adding that she felt she was “pigeonholed” by the show’s editing.

  1. I suppose there is no surprise here as Kails behavior has never been that of a mentally healthy or stable human being. This is a broken person who thinks that making the outside pretty will fix the inside but that is a fools errand. She thinks that tying all these men to her with children will make them love her but we can see how that has worked out. Find Jesus and that will bring you the peace you seek.

  2. So, I think Kail has a point here that she did not at all make well (which is why it was so ill received).

MTV gave her the platform and the visibility, but she used it to pursue education and cultivate opportunities that allowed her to exit the show with a career and a viable future. In much the same way it did Chelsea. And in much the same way anyone who goes on to be successful may say about a first job. I would not take kindly to the first law firm that hired me claiming I owed my success, 14 years later, to that opportunity. Two things can be true at the same time. It can be true that an opportunity opens a door, and be equally true that the person given that opportunity took it and turned it into a future based on that person’s own talent and motivation.

I think the part here that set Kail off is the idea that she didn’t take steps, and have her own ambition and talent, that got her where she is. And, love her or hate her, she exited Teen Mom and cultivated a viable career outside of it based on her own education, experience, and ambition. We look at people like Farrah and Jenelle, and also Amber and others from the franchise, that have no viable options with the show ending, who need Only Fans and Instagram ads to make money, and you can see my point.

True, MTV gave Kail her start. Not true that, 4 years later, she is successful and running her own businesses and that MTV gets that credit. If that were the case, Farrah would be a froyo millionaire and Jenelle would be the next Oprah.

Kail did not handle her response/reaction well, and I think her point would have landed much differently if it was made better. But I do see it.

    1. I immediately thought the same thing – delusions of grandeur. I can’t believe she does so well for herself—props, but I wouldn’t take her advice. She seems a little on the cray-cray side of things.

  3. She came from Joe’s bedroom. MTV made gave you the money and opportunities available to you. If you didn’t get on Teen mom, you’d still be in Joe’s bedroom.

  4. Bitch, please. How the HELL else would we know who you are? Your podcast sucks. Didn’t read the book because with or without MTV you are not interesting enough to give two looks at. The only thing I’d want to read about is how stupid you are to have one, let alone TWO kids with a man that “Abused” you (Chris)… You are just a chick with a zillion kids and about just as many baby daddies. I have two baby daddy’s and I’m embarrassed enough about that. To say you didn’t get your start at Teen Mom… That you didn’t “come from” MTV is the most ridiculous, insane, and delusional idea you have ever had. LOL. It’s not fucked up because it is the absolute truth! There is no way in hell you are interesting enough on your own (or for that matter, with Teen Mom/MTV in my opinion) that you would have made the few other things you have done, happen. No effing way! Humble yourself and realize you are NOTHING without MTV. Sit the fuck down.

Also, @TheAshley- that still of her in the famous “In the WaWa parking lot” moment, is just… It’s legendary. Thank you for it!

  5. Oh hunny, we would have NO idea who you are without Teen Mom. Your connections and history from the show got you everything you have now. Don’t be Miss petty.

  6. She was NOT the only teen mom cast member that wrote a book, did a podcast, started businesses, did speaking engagements, branded themselves on social media, made an OF page (yes, Kail made one a long time ago, then deactivated it). She hasn’t done anything special. They all make some money off social media and various side hustles. She blows a lot of hot air. It’s not like she really became anything else besides a famous former reality TV star….she still shows her whole life for money.

  7. What’s fcked up is her saying she DIDN’T get her start from teen mom.😂😂 like anyone would have any idea who this trog is otherwise? Without teen mom she’s just another dumbass that thinks letting every man she meets blow his beans up her is a good idea. At least she’s good to laugh at.

  8. It’s like these people on the internet doesn’t know they are on the internet for us all to see and that internet doesn’t forget. So strange.

  9. Sooooooo, she actually thinks anyone would have read those books or listened to her podcast if she was just regular old Kail from the Wawa parking lot and not Kail from Teen Mom?!?!

  10. Girl…GIRL… you popped out 173 children on MTV…and you think we’re going to forget that’s how you got your start?! 😂

  11. She is so quick to be defensive JUST to be defensive. It is common knowledge that she came from mtv. She was not famous or rich in any way prior to 16 and pregnant. That is not a secret or a lie.
She needs to stop being so combative and stay quiet or grow up and say yes I did come from mtv and I am thankful for the blessings my kids and I have as a result.

  12. This woman is getting dumber by the day.
Yes, Kail, you took the opportunities and made a life out of them (something most of your cast members didn’t) but you absolutely CAME from MTV. If it wasn’t for MTV, you would be a single mom with multiple baby daddies, working 3 minimum wage jobs to pay rent and community college.
