Barbara Evans has spoken out for the first time since her battle for her grandson Jace began last month.
While Barb’s daughter—- fired Teen Mom 2 star Jenelle Evans— has been very outspoken about Jace being sent to a mental health facility last month— Barbara has yet to speak publicly about him, or her battle against Jenelle to regain custody of the 16-year-old. (As The Ashley previously told you, Barbara called 911 in late February after Jace became destructive at her house when he found out that Jenelle has reunited with her ex-husband David Eason. He was sent to a mental health facility, where he remains as of press time.)
The Ashley broke the news Friday that Barb had filed for emergency custody. That emergency custody bid was done behind Jenelle’s back, but denied by a judge.
“Basically, because Jace is currently in the mental health facility and therefore safe, he was not in immediate danger and there was no need to grant emergency custody,” The Ashley source explained. “Barbara did not lose her chance to get custody of Jace; she only lost the bid for emergency custody.”
Barb also filed a motion on Friday to modify the custody agreement for Jace that exists between her and Jenelle. (While Jenelle has full legal custody of Jace, Barbara is legally required to be allowed visitation with her grandson, etc.)
That motion was approved and several court dates have been set up within the next couple of weeks. Barbara, Jenelle and Jace’s father Andrew Lewis (who now lives in North Carolina and has been active in Jace’s life over the last year or so) are all required to attend the hearing.
In a comment to TMZ on Monday, Barbara— who raised Jace for the majority of his life before signing custody back over to Jenelle when Jace was 14— spoke about her fight to get Jace back.
“It doesn’t matter that it was denied, because I’m going to court on March 23rd for a temporary custody hearing,” Barbara said. “The evidence will be presented then.”
Barbara will be presenting her evidence to prove to the judge that she should get custody back of Jace, as will Andrew. (As you may remember, Jenelle sent Jace to live with Andrew last year but took Jace back after just a few weeks. Just over a month later, Jace leaked private text conversations between him and his mother that showed Jenelle in a very unflattering light. He was immediately sent to live with Barbara in North Carolina, where he remained until the incident in February.
Jenelle’s “rep” issued a statement to Daily Mail over the weekend about Jace.
‘The son is receiving the help he needs, and Jenelle has been dedicated to finding the best treatment and the right place to support his progress,” the “rep” stated.
Last week, Jenelle called out Barbara several times on social media and accused her of being “the enemy” in this saga.
“Whoever thought the enemy is my own mother, sad AF,” Jenelle wrote of her mom, who suffered a stroke in October. “And to think the empathy I had for her all these months because of her health.”
According to court documents, a motion hearing has also been set for April 13 in North Carolina.

TMZ just released Barbara’s 911 call. I haven’t listened to it, and I’m not sure if I should (out of respect for their privacy,) or if I must to continue my support of Jace.
It would be nice to see Ashley readers bomb their comments. It would be very nice, indeed. TMZ exploits, especially those with mental illness. #freeJace (?)

Stop looking at her socials, stop following anything she’s doing unless it has to do with highlighting her bad behavior. Please let her fall off into obscurity for good. It’s what she deserves for putting her kids on such a difficult life path. I wouldn’t normally waste time on this, but a hearty fuck you right to Jenelle.

Thanks but I don’t personally interact with her socials or any companies she’s affiliated with in any way. Jenelle isn’t exactly getting bonus points through The Ashley, so it’s not like this is growing her popularity. Reading an article is no different that reading something on a news website about anyone else that’s famous (or infamous).
Yesterday, in an older post, I asked if there is a way to make #freejace campaign or something in which people can unify to make our collective voices into one, like the freeBrittany campaign a few years ago? I’m old and honestly and have no idea how it’s done, or even if it can be.
I love the gofundme idea. The only concern I have is if it collects enough money, Janelle maybe motivated to keep custody of Jace solely for the money. On the other hand, if it happened, it could give Barbara the means to hire someone or people to help her care for Jace in home, but that’s assuming Barbara is willing to allow strangers inside her home to essentially “babysit” Jace.
Both idea would show Jace (and hopefully those with the power and authority to affect change) just how much public support he has.
My hope is the court sees through the timing on all of this.
Janelle has been making a lot of headline on TMZ lately. Their stories are inherently biased and TMZ deletes any comment they don’t like. The majority of comments on TMZ support Jace, but again, if there were a way for everyone to band together and create a campaign that shows Jace he isn’t “crazy,” his mother really is POS. Janelle might realize she’s in a losing battle in the public eye (people should stop visiting her live feeds and only fans-let the Ashley report on it to keep us informed, but that would keep her site numbers down).
Honestly, this isn’t rocket science. People are starting to come up with ideas that are proactive and could potentially show the Evans’ family and “system” the public is watching and we do care. Minimally, Jace will see the support he has. I’m too old to understand how to do this (I finally joined facebook 4 months ago because someone suggested I use marketplace to buy/sell).
I remember years ago, people were calling DCF so often for welfare checks, it made no difference and probably added trauma to the kids. I’ll stop by asking how can each of the individuals commenting here create a unified voice across different sites? I know it needs a # but that’s as far as I go.

Everytime she was close to getting custody of Jace, she sabotaged herself. She almost ended up in jail for the long term because a Ke$ha concert was her priority. She was in and out of prison and had to call her mom to post bail. She ended up on heroin with Kieffer. At one point with the weed addiction I recall her saying, “Twelve steps isn’t my fantasy, Mom!” She was coming home drunk and covered with hickeys while Barb took care of the baby. She disappeared and stole Barb’s credit cards. Then she was all about Nathan. Then that situation exploded. In between all of this somewhere she married that Cortland guy and had an abortion. Then there was the Gary drama. More Kieffer somewhere in the mix. Then the Swamp Thing and “the land”.
It was never about Jace. Never.
Reading the comments… Can we please remember Barbara is over 70 with health issues. She did not give Jace back, she had no choice when she was struggling. She is choosing to fight for Jace even though she knows she will struggle again. She can’t fight for the other two for the same reason. Right now Jace needs someone and Barbara is the only one stepping up.

The judge can use the fact that Barbara gave custody back to Jenelle due to Jace being too much to handle, knowing he’d be around someone like David, against her. Honestly? Jace needs to be away from ALL of the Evans family. Their all bad.
How come Barbara doesn’t care about Kaiser and Ensley as much as she cares about Jace? I would fight for custody of all THREE and not just the one. Especially if I’m claiming the parent is unfit. The judge could deny it just by that, claiming if the parent really was unfit, why aren’t you fighting for custody of the other two as well. If she did include them, she probably would’ve gotten emergency custody. Ashleigh doesn’t care about them either. It’s always about Jace.
I honestly think it’s because Jenelle gave up custody when Jace was so young. She never did that with the other two. So it’s easier for Barb to get Jace whereas she’d struggle in the courts for Kaiser and Ensley. Just my speculation though.
It’s not Barbs responsibility to take on all of Jenelle’s kids, that is weird you would even suggest such a thing. Kaiser and Ensley are still young, Barb is older now. She raised Jace as the baby he was, took him on, literally did it all while Jenelle continued to be a piece of crap person, daughter, mother. Jenelle, oh, boohoohoo, give me my son back, meanwhile, hooked up with any guy and got pregnant again instantly, leaving poor Jace behind. The woman is in her 70s and recovering from a stroke, but yeah, let’s think she should take on raising Kaiser and Ensley also. Let’s not hold the freaking piece of crap mother Jenelle responsible. YOu have some facts out of sequence with a side of judgmental. Kaiser’s Paternal Grandmother is trying to get custody of him. The reason she has a better chance with Jace is b/c she had custody of him as a young child. Also, Lurch allegedly attacked Jace there is a court case ongoing about it, so a judge may see that as a more critical issue.
Barb had Jace for the vast majority of his life as opposed to the other two. And she’s making a case that is specific to Jace since he has unique issues. Jenelle shipped Jace off to her. She has de facto physical custody anyways.
Also, Kaiser and Ensley are now Nevada residents. She can’t fight a custody case across the country. She’s old and recently had a stroke. She never had as strong of a case for them. Also, I don’t think she ever wanted to raise all of Jenelle’s kids. She raised Jace, so that’s obviously different.
I think, and of course I’m speculating, Barbara has never had a lot of time with them, especially Ensley, and so there isn’t as much as an emotional attachment with them. Janelle only cares about winning or beating Barbara, and each time they went low/no contact, Jace was still with Barbara, while the others with Janelle.
I think Kaiser actually has it worse than Jace ever did. We don’t hear about him yet because he’s too young to speak out.
Didn’t Kaiser get suspended from school at least once? I don’t remember the specifics and please, correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t he bring something onto school grounds, or have a verbal or physical incident there? In 2-3 yrs, what we hear about Kaiser, I fear, will make everything happening to Jace seem like Disneyland.
But one fight at a time, and right now Jace has everyone’s attention, and I’m sure that’s why Barbara hasn’t included the other two in her fight with Janelle. Or it could be she’s 70+ yo and has at least one other child living with her and that house is only so big
Where exactly would you like him to go instead? Foster care? Barbara raised him for the first 14 years of his life and has legal rights to see him already.
Barbara doesn’t need to be raising more children in her 70s. It’s also not that easy for a grandparent to take custody from the parent, even if they are unfit. Nathan’s mother had been trying to get custody of Kaiser for years. Ensley being the clear favorite of both of her parents has no immediate need to be removed from their care. Now this could all change if Nathan kills another dog, but for now it’s not going to happen with the other 2.
When Andrew is being a more effective parent, you know you’ve lost the moral high ground. He at least knows that he’s not the right person to take care of Jace and is making sure he goes to the best home available to him, which is still depressing to think about how both of Jace’s parents have failed him so much. I feel bad for that kid. I just hope when he’s 18 and can get ahold of his MTV trust fund (that I hope Jenelle didn’t drain) he can find a proper therapist to help him get through the emotional damage his parents put him through. Say what you will about Barbara, at least she loves Jace.
Unfortunately the Coogan law doesn’t apply to reality tv so I’m sure there is no money for Jace

Generational trauma is a thing. I don’t doubt Barbara grew up in a tough situation, Janelle grew up in a tough situation, and Jace grew up in a tough situation. The thing that’s hard is when a mother can’t see through it. Janelle can’t stop seeking what she perceives as love and acceptance. She doesn’t feel that from her kids when they lash out, so she lashes out. I also believe with the youth drug usage she will never have the emotional maturity to see that long term. I hope Jace can get away, I hope he can move forward, I hope he gets privacy to do so. I hope her other kids have the placements that will help them grow and have the safety every child should.
If she stopped using she could start maturing, but i dont see that happening. She is nowhere near rock bottom, still prideful as hell.
JFC! So Janelle agave up custody to Barb when Jace was a baby. Barb gave custody back to Janelle when Jace was 14 (full well knowing she was sending him to live with an abusive POS, David). Now Janelle refuses to parent Jace and Barb is trying to get full custody…again…after giving him up.
I will Never Understand why people don’t realize that Jace’s only chance at finding peace is to cut these two women out of his life. They are toxic!

It’s hard to accept ur daughter is a POS. She made a mistake but she could have thought it was best for him. And for all we know, he may have wanted it.
Regardless, it seems barb is who he wants to be with. At 16, he should be able to decide. The other options for a 16 yo with behavior problems are far worse than Barb. She is best case scenario
I know Jenelle is going to rage-post something soon about her mother selling her out to the press, even though her mother didn’t say shit about her and made perhaps the most neutral statement she could make.
I thought she was already here and trying to be slick about Jace and Barbara, but then I remember George Carlin’s line about the average iq and realize there are enough morons to go around.
I feel like through all these years Barb has held back going nuclear on JE since she’s still her daughter & has other kids & is a public figure & didn’t want to blow up her life & future prospects but Barb needs to finally take off the gloves & fight for Jace (& by extension Kaiser & Ensley). Barb knows where the bodies are buried & all that’s going on w/UBT & their relationship. Lay it all out & show how JE’s actions are affecting Jace & point out them being back together & how it’s a violation of the ROs. By protecting JE for so long she’s made her think she’s invincible & can do whatever she wants to whomever.
This is going to suck for Barb as a Mom but it needs done to protect those grandkids.

Jenelle should have never has any amount of custody. Barbara is his mother. Jenelle is less of a parent than Caitlin and Tyler. He needs intensive therapy due to emotional abuse by Jenelle, and physical, probably verbal by David. Barbara should gave gotten sole custody of him since he was birthed.

No “more classier courtin’ heels” could stop that from getting to her and I have a feeling that I am speaking for almost everyone reading this when I say that it would make my day to both see Jenelle sit there simmering with rage at my presence and to see her confused as hell trying to figure out what’s going on when she sees someone actually *supporting* someone else instead of the demented picture she has in her head of what she thinks support looks like.

Jenelle only ever wanted custody back to prove that she has physical custody of all her children and basically it was all just property value. He belongs to her and she can now do whatever she wants with him which is basically nothing. She is shacking up with the man that abused Jace. Doesn’t that make HER Jace’s enemy? If she knows how it feels (i.e. she thinks her mother is her enemy), why is she doing this to Jace? For the best interests of all of her children, she needs to separate from David forever. Her only job as right now is to raise her kids to the best of her ability. That’s it. Barbara is putting Jace’s welfare, as a vulnerable minor, above Janelle’s wishes, as her daughter. As Barbara should! Minor children’s best interests will always trump an adult!
