Bravo head Andy Cohen was in Newport Beach, California, Friday night to receive Variety’s Creative Impact in TV Award and The Ashley was on-hand to watch the Bravo accept his award— and give some behind-the-scenes observations about the explosive “Summer House” Reunion, which has rocked the Bravosphere. 

As part of the second-annual Newport Beach TV Festival, Andy sat in for a Q&A with Variety Editor-at-Large Kate Aurthur where he reflected on his career in reality television and, of course, answered a few questions about the scandal caused by the romance between “Summer House” costars Amanda Batula and West Wilson.

“I would say that the ‘Summer House’ reunion was Top-10 most-tense reunions that we’ve had ever and I think that especially when you see next week’s episode, you’ll see that,” Andy told The Ashley and other guests at Friday’s event.

“I mean, there was, this is a real group and there was real emotional fallout among this group, and it was, this group is rocked and devastated, and it’s very real and it was very emotional, and I left and I was truly spent, and I wasn’t in it, I was just, you know, directing the conversation,” he said.

This isn’t the first time Andy’s spoken about the toll the reunion took on him. After filming wrapped on the reunion at the end of April he posted to Instagram Stories, “I’ve probably hosted, well, it’s over 100 reunions, maybe 150, something like that, this was one of the most intense we’ve ever shot. This was a lot. This was a lot. It was very intense, you guys, and every question was asked, every question was asked.”

Back at the Newport Beach TV Festival, Kate asked Andy what the most-surprising part of the hours-long reunion taping was.

“I guess that the headline was how visibly shaken a lot of them were,” he replied. “I mean Jesse Solomon spent a good chunk of kind of the last 25 minutes he was sitting there kind of crying for real, he was very shaken, and so I guess it was the emotion that really stood out to me.”

The ‘Summer House’ Season 10 reunion filmed three weeks after Amanda— who’s in the process of divorcing castmate Kyle Cooke— and West (who once dated Amanda’s friend Ciara Miller) announced via a shared Instagram post that they were in some kind of relationship. Since that news broke, fans have compared this drama to “Scandoval,” the affair that brought down Vanderpump Rules.

One attendee at last night’s event asked Andy who he thought was “more in love” at their reunion tapings, Amanda and West at the recent ‘Summer House’ taping or Tom Sandoval and Rachel Leviss at the ‘Vanderpump Rules’ taping that happened right after “Scandoval.” (As fans know, Tom and Rachel’s “relationship” fizzled out soon after the scandal was exposed.)

“It seems like West and Amanda are trying to figure this out, and I don’t know what Rachel and Tom were doing at that point,” he replied.

Since he was in Orange County, Andy also talked about the return of “The Real Housewives of Orange County” and was joined on stage by the cast. Self-proclaimed “OG of the OC” Vicki Gunvalson presented Andy with his award.

The third and final part of the ‘Summer House’ Season 10 reunion airs Tuesday at 8 p.m. on Bravo and streams uncut and extended the next day on Peacock.
