In the series premiere of her new reality series House of Stassi, Stassi Schroeder call out Vanderpump Rules– the Bravo series that made her a household name– for protecting its male cast members, while making the women on the show “look like they have issues.”
As The Ashley previously told you, ‘House of Stassi’ follows the wife and mom of two– who was booted from Bravo in 2020 for racist actions against a former castmate and now stars on Hulu’s Vanderpump Villa– as she steps back into the reality TV spotlight to redefine her place in pop culture, while confronting ghosts from her past and a chaotic inner circle.
Along with Stassi, the ‘House of Stassi’ cast includes Stassi’s husband Beau Clark, former ‘Vanderpump Rules’ stars Katie Maloney and Kristina Kelly, Stassi’s sister Georgi Aubin, podcast co-host Taylor Strecker, and friends Taylor “Teddy” Donohue and Rob Evors.
In the premiere episode of her new show, Stassi takes a moment to reflect on her previous reality TV experience, while acknowledging one of the ways in which ‘Vanderpump Rules’ was extremely problematic.
“I loved ‘Vanderpump Rules’ but it also is literally what we’re gonna have PTSD about and have to talk to therapists about for the rest of our life,” Stassi tells Katie in the series premiere of ‘House of Stassi,’ as reported by Us Weekly. “It was always, ‘Make the girls look psychotic, make the girls look like they have issues.’ They covered for the boys, they covered for the men.”
Stassi went on to tell viewers in a confessional that she has “mixed feelings” about her ‘Vanderpump Rules’ experience, as it’s given her “so many opportunities,” but also “normalized so much darkness.”
“It rewarded so much darkness until it didn’t,” Stassi continued. “And then coming back to reality TV, I’m like, ‘Are you being a dumb b*tch?’”
Stassi’s criticism about ‘Vanderpump Rules’ comes just weeks after her former co-star (and one-time friend) Scheana Shay dubbed show matriarch Lisa Vanderpump a “pick me” for inviting some of her controversial male former castmates to the June opening of The Vanderpump Hotel in Las Vegas.
As you may remember, Scheana herself is banned from visiting her former boss’s establishment, though Lisa extended invites to Tom Sandoval, known best for being tone-deaf cheating on his longtime girlfriend Ariana Madix, and James Kennedy, who was arrested in 2025 for domestic violence. (Also invited to the opening was ‘Vanderpump Villa’ star Marciano Brunette, who was accused of sexual misconduct by former Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Demi Engemann last year– an allegation both Marciano and Lisa have denied.)
On an episode of her Scheananigans podcast last month, Scheana alleged that Lisa grants certain men “endless chances,” while holding women to a much higher standard.
“I would say as a recovering ‘pick me,’ um, I recognize pick-me behavior when I see it, so, yeah,” Scheana stated. “I’ve always found it interesting that certain men can seem to get, like, endless chances with her … No matter what happens, they’re just welcomed back into the fold. They’re defended; they’re given another opportunity. Meanwhile, the women are held to a completely different standard and the grace doesn’t always seem to flow equally, I will say.”
As for Stassi, she claims on her new reality series that ‘Vanderpump Rules’ left her “scared of reality TV,” though she also admits “it’s all [she] knows.”
“I love it but I’m also traumatized by it,” she explained. “But I can’t stay away from it. But I was not gonna let ‘Vanderpump Rules’ be my legacy. I had to make this happen. I had to.”
