Trigger Warning: The story contains mentions of domestic violence.
Casey Johnson– father of ‘Unexpected’ Season 7 star Hunter– has pleaded not guilty to the criminal charges stemming from his alleged attack on his estranged wife Brettney in July.
As The Ashley reported, Casey was arrested July 23 for domestic battery and endangering the welfare of a minor following an incident that allegedly took place when Brettney was picking up the daughter she and Casey share. (Hunter is not Brettney’s son.)

According to Brettney’s mom, Shelli, Casey fought his way into Brettney’s car and allegedly “put Brettney in a chokehold, while trying to grab her keys from the ignition.” The exes’ daughter allegedly witnessed the altercation. Police were then called and Casey was arrested. He was released a few hours after posing a $3,500 bond.
On Monday, Casey– who was granted full custody of 14-year-old Hunter in May following a nasty custody battle with Hunter’s mom, Stacie Riddle– entered a not guilty plea to the charges he’s facing from the altercation.
Casey has hired the lawyer he was already using for his custody battle for his criminal case. The attorney appeared on his behalf at the arraignment on August 10, but Casey turned up after court to pay a portion of his fees.
He is currently out on a $3500 bond, but his next court date has not yet been scheduled.
Casey’s court case is only one of his estranged wife Brettney’s current worries. Earlier this week, Brettney sadly revealed on Facebook that she had “lost everything” in a house fire.
“We are alive and that’s what matters,” she wrote. “That could have been so different.”
Brettney also shared a shocking video of the fire’s aftermath, calling the night of the house fire “one of the scariest nights of [her] life.” (The fire occurred in the home Brettney had been living in since her split from Casey.)

“To think that me and my daughter was [sic] asleep in this very bed,” she wrote. “God was with us. The fact I even woke up is a miracle. Trying to find Rylie in a room that I couldn’t see in or breathe in was the scariest feeling I have ever experienced. It seemed like it took us forever to find our way outside. The moment we made it to the yard and that fresh air hit our faces I was so relieved. That’s when I realized how bad it was.
“The whole room we was [sic] in was engulfed in flames,” Brettney continued. “I am so thankful to the fire department and the police department and my dad for doing everything they could to save what we could. I am heartbroken over losing everything but I am so thankful me and Rylie made it out of that house.”
Hunter currently lives with Casey and was not in the house at the time of the fire.
Hunter’s ‘Unexpected’ Season 7 co-star Isabella Leal-Stone took to TikTok to let the show’s fans know about the fire and to help raise money for Brettney.
