Mackenzie Standifer was recently granted emergency temporary custody of the two kids she shares with Ryan Edwards— but now a Tennessee judge is making demands that the Teen Mom’ dad undergo specific drug-testing and only have supervised visits with his kids.

Over the weekend, The Ashley broke the news that Mack requested— and was granted— temporary ex parte custody of Jagger and Stella, as well as a restraining order that bars Ryan’s wife Amanda Conner from being around the kids. The Ashley has now acquired the documents filed by the court last week which state that the judge ruled that the kids could suffer “immediate and irreparable injury” should custody not be taken from Ryan immediately.

The Ashley can also reveal that Ryan will now have to submit to very specific drug testing, as Mackenzie suspects that the ‘Teen Mom’ star may be using opioid-like chemical compound(s) found in the kratom plant. As fans are aware, Ryan has struggled with substance abuse issues for years and had a very long addiction to opioids. He has claimed to be sober for the last few years, however. 

Judge Kyle Hedrick appears to be questioning Ryan’s sobriety, as he has ordered Ryan to have his fingernails clipped at a testing facility and have the specimen tested “for the longest scientifically supported lookback period.” (This means that they are going to test for drug use as far back as it’s scientifically accurate.) 

The judge has ordered Ryan to undergo a “comprehensive nail panel” within seven days of the order being issued. This panel will specifically test for use of mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine (also known as 7-OH), which are both alkaloids found in the kratom plant. They can produce opioid-like effects and are often used recreationally or for relief of opioid/substance withdrawal symptoms. Mitragynine and 7-OH do not show up in a standard five-panel or 10-panel drug test.

As of July, kratom has been banned in Tennessee, where Ryan lives. 

In addition to the drug-testing, Judge Hedrick’s order mandates that Ryan not be allowed to have unsupervised time with Jagger and Stella. He is also not allowed to drive them anywhere or take them anywhere.

“Father is restrained from removing, or causing another person to remove either child from Mother, school, daycare or either set of grandparents except as expressly authorized in this Order,” the court order obtained by The Ashley states. 

Until further notice, Ryan is only permitted to see his kids at his parents’ home, with his parents Jen and Larry Edwards supervising those visits. 

The judge has ruled that it’s up to Mackenzie to decide if the kids can go to Jen and Larry’s home.

“Mother may, in her discretion, permit the paternal grandparents to spend time with the children during the time assigned to [Ryan] in the current parenting plan whether or not [Ryan] is present,” the order states. 

Ryan (and Amanda) have also both been banned from driving the kids anywhere. Amanda is not allowed to be near Jagger and Stella.

“Father’s current wife shall not supervise, transport, or be alone with the children,” the order states.

These rulings are to stay in effect until a hearing takes place, or the Court issues an additional order. As of press time, it does not appear that any hearing has been scheduled in the case.

Ryan and Amanda have yet to speak out about the judge’s rulings.
