While Farrah Abraham awaits her day in court, she got to cheer on other victims of her alleged assailant.
Former Windsor, California, Mayor Dominic Foppoli was found liable on Friday for sexually assaulting seven women and was ordered to pay the victims $13 million in compensatory damages, CBS News Bay Area reported. Farrah has her own civil case pending against Dominic, whom she alleges drugged and raped her in March 2021 at house party in Palm Beach, Florida.
Farrah was interviewed by the station following the decision.
“Like, my first reaction was thank God there was justice,” she told reporter Da Lin.
The Austin, Texas, city council candidate is one of 14 women who’ve come forward with allegations against Dominic. The former politician has denied any wrongdoing and claimed that all sexual acts were consensual. His attorney told CBS News Bay Area that Dominic’s team is considering either appealing Friday’s decision or filing a motion for a new trial.
In addition to speaking with CBS News Bay Area, Farrah took the opportunity to use the judgement to promote her own political campaign in an Instagram post that went up Sunday afternoon.
“This is why local communities need to vote better and remove criminal activity from their local communities today,” she wrote. “The $13 million verdict in Sonoma County proved that when survivors stand together, no title or network can hide the truth. Career politicians and corrupt local systems protect enablers. Survivors make the most effective public servants because they have directly fought for accountability, safety, and win.
“I am bringing that exact same accountability to local government in Austin Texas,” the post continued. “Survivors are the best advocates to hold bad actors accountable. Vote this November 3rd in Austin, TX: Abraham for Action. I appreciate your vote in advance.”
“Seeing justice served for others is the ultimate fuel for the fire,” Farrah (and most likely ChatGPT) went on. “Watching these women get the validation they deserve is a powerful reminder that speaking up matters, and it’s giving me all the strength I need as I head into my own courtroom battle. If you think you can silence victims impacted by criminal behavior, think again—standing up, speaking out, and ready to fight for what’s right.”
Farrah’s also reposted coverage of the case to her Stories. Though she wasn’t involved in Friday’s case, she did write on one post, “Happy to help survivors of battery and assault—they deserve more money.”
(Again, Farrah was not part of this case, nor did she help the women win this money. None of the $13 million in damages was awarded to Farrah.)
Farrah’s civil trial, in which she’s seeking more than $20 million in damages from Dominic, is scheduled to begin next February. Farrah’s civil complaint accuses Dominic of sexual assault, battery, gender violence and infliction of emotional distress, according to The Press Democrat.
The former mayor previously declared his innocence, though he did not deny having sexual contact with Farrah or any of the other women who had accused him of sexual assault. He did, however, state that there was “absolutely no truth” to the claims made in Farrah’s lawsuit.
As she awaits her day in court, Farrah shared her feelings about the cases against Dominic.
“That is very concerning that we’re not having criminal justice, we are having civil justice right now,” she told a reporter.
After an 11-month investigation, the California State Attorney General’s Office declined to file criminal charges against Dominic, announcing in April 2024 that it didn’t “have enough evidence to warrant filing charges on the cases not barred by the statute of limitations,” CBS News Bay Area reported.
The day after the attorney general announced that no criminal charges would be filed, Farrah took part in a press conference featuring other women who’d accused Dominic of assault.
“I thought it was important to be here because, for some reason, it felt like healing to me,” she said in her speech. “…I got a lot out of the recordings that the other Jane Does got to record for us today and it’s very healing, so I’m just grateful for this opportunity and I thought it was very important…
“[I’m] happy to have a sisterhood, happy to have all of you here who are spending your time here,” Farrah continued. “I really appreciate the love and support, and it’s very healing for probably everyone here.”
