Farrah Abraham is recovering after recently undergoing major jaw surgery that has required her mouth to be temporarily wired shut. 

According to TMZ, the former ‘Teen Mom’ star had double-disc jaw surgery last week and “custom jaws”– which were specifically engineered for her face– implanted. Farrah’s face has been left severely swollen due to the procedure, and she currently has stitches on both sides of her face as well as across her neck. As part of her recovery, Farrah’s jaw had to be wired shut, leaving the 35-year-old unable to talk and subjected to a liquid diet for the next two months. 

“Farrah cannot speak because her jaw is wired shut, and her face is extremely swollen,” Farrah’s manager, Chrissy Johnston, told Daily Mail. “She’s in a severe amount of pain and is really struggling, both physically and mentally.” 

Chrissy also told the outlet that, due to the surgery, Farrah “lost hearing in her right ear,” though they’re hoping her hearing “returns to normal over time.” 

Despite her current state, Farrah made an appearance on her 17-year-old daughter Sophia’s TikTok Live this week, telling fans via whiteboard that she “had surgery & can’t talk.” 

Farrah later addressed the matter on Instagram, reportedly telling followers that she felt “like Frankenstein right now,” and is “praying [her] face comes back in three months.” 

Farrah– as well as her rep, via Instagram Story– insists that the brutal jaw surgery was medically necessary and not done for cosmetic reasons. Farrah explained to TMZ that she went under the knife to repair an injury that she suffered during a reported alleged sexual assault in 2021 by the hands of former Windsor, California, Mayor Dominic Foppoli. (Farrah is suing the former mayor for the alleged assault and seeking more than $20 million in damages; the civil trial is scheduled to begin in February. Dominic has denied the allegations against him.) 

Farrah’s manager told Daily Mail this week that Farrah believes “trauma and stress” from the alleged assault affected her nervous system and “contributed to the damage she has experienced.” 

Back in May, Farrah opened up about her ongoing jaw issues during an episode of the Pillow Talk podcast. Farrah explained at the time that she was dealing with a “degenerative disc disease” that was preventing her from fully opening her mouth and that she was “getting ready for a really big surgery” to repair the issue.   

While Farrah’s latest surgery was medically necessary, she has chosen to undergo multiple cosmetic procedures that have altered her physical appearance since making her reality TV debut in 2009, several of which were filmed for ‘Teen Mom’ and/or social media.

In the past, Farrah has copped to having at least three breast augmentations, a nose job, a chin implant (which she later removed), butt injections and surgery, vaginal rejuvenation procedures, liposuction, and both cheek and lip filler. Farrah also attempted to get a lip implant back in 2015, though the botched procedure had disastrous results and landed her in the hospital, as you likely recall. 

In March 2025, Farrah revealed that she had dropped more than $50,000 on cosmetic procedures for her mouth alone, before going on to claim later that year that she planned to significantly scale back on the sprucing up of her face and body going forward. 

Although Farrah told Us Weekly at the time that she had finally gotten to a place of self-acceptance, she was bragging to Daily Mail about her “million-dollar body” just six months earlier and sharing which surgical procedures she was considering having next. 

“I would love an invasive surgery next!” Farrah told the outlet. “Blepharoplasty [a surgery done on the eyelids] is calling my name. Like, a light face lift is [too]. I’m all about preventative. People need to not shy away from that and I’m in my thirties and that’s what’s up for the 30-year-olds. 

“Again, I don’t ever feel like I need anything, but it’s preventative,” she continued. “I would rather do [surgeries] younger so I can bounce back and heal and recover, than later when it’s all stretched out. It’s more money, more recovery time.” 

It’s unknown how (or if) Farrah’s current condition will affect her campaign for Austin City Council.
