TLC has dropped the ‘Sister Wives’ Season 21 trailer, along with some very unexpected news.
“There has been a lot that has happened,” Janelle Brown teases at the beginning of the trailer, after which Christine Brown adds, “I don’t know how to process it all, I’m just going to be honest.”
“There have been a few changes recently. Kind of some big ones,” Meri Brown says, before the big news is revealed to fans.
“After 16 years of filming ‘Sister Wives’, Kody & Robyn [Brown] will not be returning to the show,” an on-screen statement reads.
Christine goes on to tell viewers in a confessional that she has “no idea” what Kody and Robyn’s exit means, while Janelle says she was “flabbergasted” by the news and Meri echoes a similar sentiment.
“I was actually surprised when I was told that Kody and Robyn weren’t coming back to the show,” she says.
The news of Kody and Robyn’s departure comes just a week after Christine spoke about some secrets that are set to be revealed in the upcoming season.
“There’s a lot of secrets this next season of ‘Sister Wives’ and I would spill the tea for you, but I’m totally, ya know, bound by a contract … but, like, you’re gonna be pretty dang surprised,” she told fans on Instagram.
While Kody, Robyn and The Chosen Five Kids are nowhere to be found in the newly released trailer for Season 21, fans can expect to see all three of Kody’s ex-wives continuing to move forward following their respective splits from the father of 18, while potentially making amends amongst each other.
“I am meeting Janelle and Christine,” Meri says in the trailer, with little to no excitement. “It’s not like I’m going to walk in and go in for a hug.”
“This is going to be awkward,” Christine adds of the impending encounter.
As the clip goes on, Meri arrives to meet her former sister wives and Janelle reminds viewers of the “underlying tension” both she and Christine had with Meri for years. Though Meri insists that she doesn’t want to be in “some ex-wives club,” viewers soon see all three of Kody’s exes seemingly bonding over melting an assortment of discarded My Sister Wife’s Closet jewelry and other baubles gifted by their formerly shared spouse.
“When we were all sister wives still, this was us at our best,” Christine says of the interaction.
Later in the trailer, Janelle and Meri reunite again, this time to rehash the family’s now-sold Coyote Pass property. Janelle explains that Kody and Robyn “openly accused” her during the Season 20 Tell-All of trying to “cut Meri out of the land deal”– something she continues to deny.
“There’s been no contact since,” Janelle tells fans. “And [Kody] very publicly torpedoed my character afterwards.”
While Meri admits to Janelle that she doesn’t understand the situation– presumably due to the claims made by Kody during the Season 20 Tell-All– Janelle questions why Meri is still believing Kody and Robyn over her.
As fans may remember, Janelle and Meri did make strides in their once-strained friendship last season; however, Christine and Meri have yet to hash out their own long-standing issues. In the upcoming season, the two meet up for a one-on-one conversation– one that both parties seem equally anxious about.
“Meri and I are going to meet up,” Christine says. “It’s hard when you burn a bridge to go back over and cross it again.”
“If this conversation doesn’t go well between Christine and I, how do we move forward?” Meri asks.
In addition to the dynamic between Christine, Janelle and Meri, Season 21 promises to dive deeper into Christine’s marriage to husband David Woolley.
“David and I have only known each other for, like, not even four years,” Christine says, before busting out a compatibility board game for her and David to play.
Later in the trailer, Christine and David attend couples therapy, where David accuses his wife of having two identities– Christine Woolley and Christine Brown.
“I’m coming to the point where it’s either me or them,” David says, without revealing who “them” is.
As Christine works to improve her marriage to David, Janelle hits the dating scene– and the dance floor– in the hopes of finding a man of her own who isn’t “too much of a pretty boy.”
“I’m not doing that again,” she says.
The trailer goes on to show Janelle hitting it off with a man named Peter Lahowin who is “so nice” and free of “red flags.” (As you know, Janelle debuted her relationship with Peter last month on social media.)
Season 21 will also show Meri continuing to forge her own path while also trying to find love.
Season 21 of ‘Sister Wives’ premieres Sunday, October 4 on TLC. Watch the trailer below!

I am confused Janelle ?? I never knew there was a “pretty boy” on the show. Grody will never be or has ever been a pretty boy. What is happening now is pure KARMA !! Grody & Sobin created it so now they get to live it. 😂😂
I wasn’t a Robyn or Kody fan but they brought drama. I tuned in to see what new stupid thing was going to come out of Kody’s mouth or if he would ever pull his head out of his butt and reconcile with the kids he didn’t have with Robyn.
I’m not sure what I would be watching. Meri has always bored me. I do enjoy her best friend Jen because she brings the humor but that doesn’t make Meri more entertaining.
Jenelle is really a one note kind of person. She doesn’t bring much other than polite conversation.
I was thrilled when Christine left because I always liked her. I was genuinely happy for her when she met David. Because she deserved love and happiness. But do I want to tune in every week to see her & David splashed across my screen? Not really.😬
This may be it for me. And it definitely should have been it for the show.
That is actually kind of surprising. I guess Kody finally realized that pretty much no one likes him. But, why is this show still on? The three original wives have all left and any interaction between Meri and the others is obviously forced. Christine/Jenelle and Meri don’t actually like each other or interact in real life, at all. It’s time to call it.
