Kail Lowry Gives Her Thoughts on Old Episodes of ‘Teen Mom 2’ Being on Netflix; Reveals the Amount of Money the Show’s Stars Make From the Jump to Netflix

“But it could be worse. I could’ve been off gettin’ high with Kieffa!”

The first two seasons of Teen Mom 2 are currently on Netflix, allowing viewers to relieve the “HIGH! HIGH!”s and lows of the early days of the show. Shortly after the show arrived on Netflix on December 15, Jenelle Evans shared how unhappy she is that the early seasons of the show (which contain plenty of her most-memorable HIGH! HIGH-jinks) are now available for viewing on Netflix. She also begged viewers to stop hating on her for things she did and said over 10 years ago.

On the newest episode of her Coffee Convos podcast, Kail Lowry provided her thoughts on fans being able to re-watch episodes that were long forgotten. She also revealed what the show’s stars received financially when ‘Teen Mom 2’ jumped to Netflix.

“It is very irritating,” Kail told her co-host Lindsie Chrisley. “It’s a two-parter. I’m excited that we’re on Netflix because it will remind people how far we’ve come…all the messages that I’ve been getting now are like, ‘Now that we’re…older I realize what you went through before and now I have a different perspective of you.’ So in that way, I’m relieved, I feel good that we’re on Netflix; it’s cool.

“On the other hand, I did not know that they were going to put us on Netflix,” she continued. “Nobody [in the cast] was warned that they were going to put us on Netflix… I don’t mind that I’m on Netflix, or that I’m the face of the Netflix. What I do mind is that we don’t get paid for it.”

(As The Ashley has reported, the girls receive no residuals for the show in any way. When the episodes are in re-runs or when they are streamed online (or in the case, on Netflix), they are not paid any additional money for the airings, and Viacom has the right to do whatever they want with the episodes, footage and images without paying the girls anything additional.)

Kail stated that she wishes she would have known more about contracts so that she could have profited from future uses of the early footage.

“Hindsight is 20/20 and had we known that this was going to be a possibility, I feel like all of us would have negotiated that into our contracts. Like, ‘If you take this outside of MTV, we will get royalties on it’ or something,” Kail said. “I feel like as 16-year-olds signing these contracts, that’s not something that we would have thought of. We probably signed our names and likenesses away so they can use it anywhere they want.”

(They did!)

“That’s irritating to me,” Kail added.

Kail said that, although she’s used to seeing her image on TV, being on the popular streaming service is very different.

“I’ve been on national TV but Netflix, I feel like more people— I don’t know if this is true, it’s just an assumption but— I think more people are paying for Netflix now than are paying for cable. So it’s almost like a re-do of the peak of the show.

“Tha best paaaahrt is ya get to re-watch my greatest moments with my bitch of a daughta!”

After stating that she felt it was “weird” that people could go back and re-watch the mistakes she made as a teen, she hopes that people don’t look back and think she’s “cringey.”

“That’s what I feel like,” she said. “I haven’t been able to rewatch. I can’t because I’m so cringey. I’m so cringe-worthy.”

Kail said that a lot of fans have been messaging her about her ex, Jo Rivera, whom she was dating on-and-off during the first seasons of the show.

“The messages that I get, nine out of 10 of them are ‘Oh my God, I forgot how mean Jo was to you’ or ‘Oh my God, he was borderline abusive to you.’ Maybe not physically abusive but the things that he did to me, or the things that he said to me were awful,” Kail said.

“Remember, that was back when I was still struggling with the pressures of my super-star rap career!”

“A lot of people are like, ‘I have a newfound respect for you, watching it 10 years later….I see why you were the way you were,'” she continued. “In that way, I’m kind of thankful. Now that we’re all older we have a different perspective on things.”

Kail, I am a 32 year old mother of an amazing 7 year old boy (Ryland) and I was married and 25 when I had him, however before that at age 18-22 I was in a very abusive relationship in which I got pregnant and at 28 weeks my fiance at the time got angry and smashed me into a glass coffee table and I had to deliver my son as a stillborn 😭👼🏼💔. I’ve been re-watching all seasons starting with 1 and I’m now on 4. I just wanted to say I’ve been there where my Dad wanted nothing to do with me, my mom and I could never live together (BC of ridiculous rules) so I was emancipated legally at 16 and moved out on my own. It was SO hard and I DIDN’T have a baby. I also struggled with anger issues due to all the BS in my life from a child on. I want you to know I have a massive amount of respect for you, especially after everything you’ve been through. F*ck the haters, they’ve obviously never had to experience half the shit people like you and I have. (I’m also from PA and currently still live here) I personally think you are an amazing mother, and I’ve watched you flourish into a beautiful, amazing woman. I have a lot of respect for you and I wish you and your beautiful family nothing but the best. As for the people that have nothing good to say, f*ck ’em, they don’t know your whole story, and its very easy for people to judge or even dislike a person over nothing more than straight up JEALOUSY. You got this babe, don’t ever let anyone take that from you!!! Love you and hope ALL is well.
Love,(a huge fan and fellow proud Momma) Tiffany from PA💜

  2. The same episodes that she talks about Jo being an a$$ also show her true side too. Seriously, she’s dating another guy while living under Jo’s parents roof? Seriously, that’s just f’d up to me. I’m not siding with Jo but she also blew it with Jordan and did it in a f’d up way. Then when she wanted Jo back and he said no way, she flipped out because she already told Jordan that she slept with Jo. She ended up losing both of them. She played them both but Jo got the last laugh. He played her right back. Booty call was all that was. She thought otherwise and thought wrong. She was miserable back then and is even more miserable now. Looking back and also seeing her what she does now, I’ve come to the conclusion that she makes her own misery. You think she would have learned by now. The only thing that changed with her is her age….her mind is still at 16 with the way she acts and handles her life today and much richer today than she was back then. Nothing else.

  3. Kailyn the one I want talk about she never went into her adult life having four kid these guy the kid are her direction in life weren’t for her kid where would she be I love her older son he just the sweet and love his little brother dad he grew up with in house

  4. Nick B aka Jo Rivera was just spitting hot fire during that rap career. The hair cut, the shape of his head, the hot lyrics, boy had game. And Vee, lets be honest, who here wouldn’t
E her A on the daily, word.

    stay lit

  5. *She hopes that people don’t look back and think she’s “cringey.”
    “That’s what I feel like,” she said. “I haven’t been able to rewatch. I can’t because I’m so cringey. I’m so cringe-worthy.”*
Until about two years ago, I had watched them all from the beginning and can tell you that from the beginning to the present, Kail, you ARE cringeworthy and always will be. BTW- i absolutely love the totally unflattering (and accurate) picture they used for the cover of the show on Netflix. Also, Jo was not abusive. If anyone was, it was Kail. That’s a bunch of BS. And Kail, no one feels bad for you. No one. you made choice to be on the show, you chose not to put certain things in your contract- You claim MTV “portrays” you in a negative light… Well, after YEARS of watching, I’d say they aren’t painting anything. they are showing everyone, YOU. And in hindsight, you see how awful you look as a person. At this point I wish they’d cancel the show or at least cancel her. She is such a miserable bullfrog.

  6. Dont they renew their contracts every year? Meaning they can request to amend things? Yes, a 16 yr old girl may not have known better but a woman almost 30 with multiple lawyers has no excuse.

  7. I think Kail should rewatch these old episodes. She was a completely different person. Now she seems to be promoting a ghetto vibe like she grew up in the projects but back then she was a normal, fairly smart, fairly motivated, middle-class teenager who had a horrible childhood. She seemed pretty balanced and not subject to rages and tantrums. She had a lot of friends.

I don’t understand why she treated Jordan the way she did. He was probably the best-suited partner for her of any of her partners, with basically the same intelligence level, same goals. I think if she had just gotten a little bit of guidance, they would still be together, be married with three kids, a home, and two late-model automobiles.

I believe that being on tv, while it has afforded her a great lifestyle, has made her very bitter. All her triggers are set off all the time and she is constantly criticized. She even has to exaggerate her faults for the show, thus making her more unlikeable and unhappy. The show, exposure has stirred up latent mental health issues so she is not really herself and doesn’t know how to get back there.

    Just my take.

  8. All adding it to Netflix has shown, is that Kail has always been shit. She’s always treated her boyfriends/baby daddies like shit. And she has not grown as a person AT ALL.

She kept Isaac from Jo because he had a new gf. Threw a fit when Vee was around Isaac (despite having introduced him to at least 2 guys by that point). She is just full of jealousy and rage and it shows.

  9. You guys realize she means the face (thumbnail) of the show while scrolling netflix not “the face” of netflix right? Seems like that’s going over a few heads…

  11. “Face of Netflix?” Kail thinks she was on the show due to some sort of talent. She was a teen mom who had and continues to have a messy life, and hit the lotto because it was filmed. Actually one could argue she has regressed not progressed, particularly in regard to Chris. She may have more money than before, but her life is as messy as ever.

  12. I really like the early episodes and happy they are on Netflix. It shows them actually struggling and going through real things. It seems more raw and true to real life instead of them buying expensive homes, buying therapy horses, opening up clothing lines…etc and mtv didn’t have to manipulate story lines. The girls aren’t so made up for camera either.

  13. Not feeling super bad about residuals while they’re driving Range Rovers to their McMansions.

I will say I have a new respect for Chelsea’s hair style of TODAY.

  14. I used to think Jo was an asshole back then … now, I think he just knew the Kail we didn’t (yet). These episodes were back when she was cute & relatable, before she became a petty bullfrog with 5 chins, 4 kids, & 3 baby daddies.

    1. Wow, and you call kail petty 😬 petty is attacking her appearance instead of leaving the criticism to her choices and actions. Gross.

      1. I am rewatching the show and wow. I forgot how cute kailyns face was. She looked nice. Too bad she has a bad attitude.

It is crazy watching back and how different they look. It has been a long time. When the episode came on with Chelsea and her friends I thought my goodness, I thought this was pretty back then? They looked horrible.

        1. In their defense, most of us looked just as terrible but don’t have it memorialized on television. I hate to think of the looks I’s be reminded of if I’d been filmed daily in my teens and early 20’s. 😆

    2. Meh. She’s always been a petty ass bullfrog with four chins. She just continues to add the baby daddies. It’s no coincidence that none of these dudes have stuck around. At some point you have to look at yourself instead of saying shit didn’t work out because of the guys you dated. Ah, the Incredible Hulk that is Kail… SMH

    3. Making comments about her weight saying she has 5 chins and shit??? That really makes you SO much better than her, RIGHT??? No, 2 wrongs don’t make a right and you are stooping to an extremely LOW level there, just an FYI!!!!

  15. So she now wants to bash the one baby daddy who has been good to her? Really? I can’t stand her maybe she needs to go back and watch old episodes

  16. Greedy as Karl can’t just appreciate that her big ass got rich doing absolutely nothing. How entitled can that petty B be??

  17. But even if she’d known better and asked for residual rights, etc. MTV would have just given it to someone else. They didn’t have the leverage back then, probably don’t have it at this point either really.

  18. I don’t understand why people are saying jo was so awful? I rewatched the Netflix seasons & jo was always there for issac, always worked , always helped kail in many ways, fought for more time with issac, wanted to meet Jordan, held a clean record, etc. ? Am I missing something?

    1. I was thinking the same thing reading this!! That’s what stuck out the most to me! Jo was really one of the best, if not the best, dad on the show!! I’m in the middle of rewatching now and, in my opinion, she treated Jo way worse than he treated her!! Him and his family gave her a nice place to live, he let her use his car, helped with Isaac and worked… what more could she ask for at 17?! She repaid him by dating someone else while living in his house and the worst part was she allowed Jo to drive her to introduce his child to the guy she was dating!!! I think this girls got things a little twisted!! Her attitude only got worse as the boyfriends went on… she cheated on Jordan with Jo and cheated on Javi while he was deployed! Plus, doesn’t she have a great relationship with Vee AND Jo now?! Why would she trash him on her podcast and ruin that?! She treated them both like shit in the beginning and has 0 room to talk about how badly anyone treated her!! Okay…rant over! I just can’t stand this girls attitude!

    2. I’ve always thought the same way. Jo was definitely not a perfect boyfriend, but to call him borderline abusive is totally wrong. In some ways, he was a typical young dad, like when he wanted to go out with his friends instead of staying home with Kail and Isaac; that’s not anywhere close to “abusive”. In many other ways, he was a great guy…he definitely loved his son, he kept a job, he gave Kail money for school when she needed it, he supported Isaac, he always wanted equal time with Isaac, his family (including his brother) always helped out with Isaac. With few exceptions, he has always respected Kailyn as his son’s mother, and looked out for her when he didn’t have to. When he was younger, yes, he made some mistakes and needed his parents to remind him of his responsibilities, but overall, Jo has been one of the best dads on the show. He has shown a lot of growth and maturity since 16 & Pregnant and I really respect the way that he and Vee have conducted themselves when it comes to dealing with their Kailyn and the public portion of their lives.
