On Wednesday’s premiere of The Flip Off, Christina Haack opened up about her split from husband Josh Hall, claiming her estranged spouse was extremely bothered by the close relationship she has with her (first) ex-husband Tarek El Moussa. 

As The Ashley previously reported, the new HGTV show was initially slated to be a house-flipping competition series with Christina and Josh teaming up against Tarek and Tarek’s wife, Heather Rae El Moussa; however, the format of the show changed after Christina and Josh split in July, after which Josh was booted from the series.

On this week’s series premiere, viewers got to see the (very little) footage Josh filmed before he and Christina both filed for divorce in July, as well as the moment Christina broke the news to Tarek. During the emotional conversation between the exes, Christina revealed to Tarek that their close relationship had actually contributed to some of the issues in her and Josh’s marriage.

“You make him very insecure,” Christina told Tarek, before going on to suggest that even their co-parenting relationship didn’t sit well with Josh. “Every time we would barely joke at soccer, or if I laugh at you, he would not speak to me for like two to three days. 

“I would get silent treatment,” she added. 

Christina, who is currently in the middle of a messy divorce from Josh, also claimed that her husband of less than three years didn’t like her and would accuse her of being “cocky” and “arrogant”– allegations that Tarek assured Christina weren’t true. 

“You’re not any of those things and he’s projecting,” Tarek insisted. “You’re a great mother, a great daughter. You are a great human.” 

Christina explained that she and Josh had finally called it quits after a “blow-up fight over nothing.” However, as The Ashley previously told you, Christina also shared with Tarek during the conversation that their children had “literally asked me to leave” Josh. 

“They told me, ‘He’s not nice to me,’” Christina recalled. “Why would I stick around?” 

Viewers got a glimpse into Josh and Christina’s seemingly tense relationship in a sneak peek of ‘The Flip Off’ earlier this month. In the clip, the (now) former couple shared an awkward exchange in the car, with Josh telling his wife to “shut up” at one point and reminding her that her last name is “Hall.”

Christina elaborated on the latter point during Wednesday’s premiere, telling viewers that Josh didn’t like that she still shared a last name with her (first) ex-husband when they met. 

“When I met Josh, my name was still Christina El Moussa on everything,” she explained. “Josh did not like that and he was all about me becoming a Hall.” 

(While Christina didn’t mention this on Wednesday’s episode, it’s worth noting that she briefly used the name “Christina Anstead” after marrying Ant Anstead, the father of her youngest child, in 2018. Christina and Ant split in 2020 and their divorce was finalized the following year.) 

After claiming on ‘The Flip Off’ premiere that Josh had been “a bit moody lately,” Christina cited Josh’s understanding that she and Tarek “have a history,” insisting that it had contributed to Josh’s sour demeanor. 

“I’m sure some of it is the stress of the competition,” she added.
