Josh Duggar Hires R. Kelly’s Lawyer Beau Brindley Despite Previously Claiming He’s Broke; Gets Latest Hearing Continued

“Daddy got me the best lawyer that Duggar money could buy!”

Josh Duggar has been trying to get himself out of prison since the day in 2021 he was found guilty of receiving and possessing child sex abuse materials (CSAM). Now, however, the disgraced 19 Kids & Counting star has a new lawyer to help him in his attempt to get sprung from the clink: attorney Beau Brindley, who memorably served as a defense attorney for R. Kelly!

According to court records, Josh somehow hired Beau on Tuesday (despite previously claiming that he only had 20 cents in his bank account because his family was no longer sending him money.) On Tuesday, Beau filed an appearance notifying the court that he has been retained by Josh for his upcoming hearing (which was supposed to take place on Wednesday).

Beau also filed a motion to appear Pro Hac Vice (aka “for this one occasion”), since Beau is a practicing attorney in the state of Illinois and has not been admitted to Arkansas’ state bar, where the hearing is taking place.

In addition, Beau asked the court to continue Wednesday’s hearing so he has “additional time to review the case materials and familiarize himself with the issues.” It appears that the government’s counsel did not oppose the continuation.

“Things are looking up! Let’s party!”

As The Ashley previously reported, Josh spent much of 2025 trying to get himself a new trial (despite having his appeals rejected by the Supreme Court in 2024.)

In May 2025, the Duggar family felon filed a motion with the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Arkansas, asking the judge to appoint him a lawyer who can help him fight to overturn his conviction. In his letter to the judge, Josh stated that he can no longer afford a private attorney and therefore needed a public defender. That request was denied a month later.

In July, he filed a motion in court for a new trial —or to have his guilty conviction thrown out— claiming that his “constitutional rights” were “violated” during his 2021 trial. Among his many claims, Josh alleges that Bobye Holt— whose family was very close to the Duggar Clan around the time a teenage Josh molested five young girls, including four of his sisters– shouldn’t have been allowed to testify about that situation

However, Josh ran into problems, when the court alleged that he first mailed his documents to the wrong place. He then allegedly mailed the docs to the correct place, but he did so too late.

“Duggar failed to meet his statutory time limit in filing his § 2255 motion, and therefore his claims are time barred,” the court docs state.

Josh claimed that he sent the documents in on June 24, 2025— well within the allowed timeframe. However, in October 2025, the prison submitted its outgoing mail logs for that day, revealing that only “two certified items of mail were sent on June 24, 2025 – neither of which were sent by Joshua Duggar.”

Wednesday’s hearing was supposed to determine if Josh’s “Motion to Vacate was timely filed under the prison mailbox rule.” The requests Josh made in his Motion to Vacate will be addressed at a later hearing.

Now that Beau Brindley is on Josh’s case, he will have time to help the convicted felon get his “mail problems” sorted out.

How Josh pictures himself rolling into the courtroom with his new lawyer and exonerating himself…probably.

Beau has a long history of trying to help one of his other famous clients— R. Kelly— get out of prison. Last year, he claimed R. Kelly needed to be sprung from The Big House (at least temporarily) because he had blood clots in his lungs and needed life-saving surgery. That request was denied. Beau also filed an emergency motion in 2025 accusing prison and Department of Justice officials of trying to get other prison inmates to kill R. Kelly to keep evidence of alleged constitutional violations from coming out during his federal trial.

Beau himself has also faced criminal charges of obstructing justice and subornation of perjury in seven cases in which he was accused of coaching witnesses to lie. In 2015, he was acquitted of the federal charges against him.

A new hearing date has not yet been confirmed.

Josh’s current release date is December 23, 2032.

  1. I whole heartedly support this. R. Kelly will likely never see the light of day, so it is great news Josh chose his attorney.

  2. I get that defense attorneys are necessary and everyone deserves representation. But defending a repeat child sex abuser who admitted to abusing four kids (including two of his own sisters) and was convicted of violent child pornography? That attorney is on a whole new level of disgusting. No amount of money makes that okay. But what can you expect from someone who represented a violent rapist and sex trafficker and another child pornographer in Ray J? I expect he has no morals and nowhere he would draw the line to make a fast buck.
