Amid a near constant stream of negative Duggar Family updates, Jill Duggar proudly shared Tuesday on social media that her husband, Derick Dillard, has been sworn in as an Officer in the United States Marine Corps.
In a series of images reposted by the former ‘Counting On’ star, Derick was seen taking part in the Commissioning Ceremony, where he took the Oath of Commissioned Officers and went on to take part in the first salute tradition.
In one of the videos posted by the U.S. Marine Corps Officer Selection Station in Springfield, Missouri, it was confirmed that Derick was sworn in as a Second Lieutenant. (This rank was due to Derick entering through officer commissioning pathway and having previously earned a college degree.)
“From the oath to the very first salute, every moment marked the beginning of a new chapter,” the caption read. “Congratulations to our newest United States Marine Corps Officer. May you always lead with honor, courage, and commitment 🇺🇸.”
“👏🎉😍Let’s goooooo!!!” Jill commented on the post.
Tuesday’s Dillard Family update comes just a few months after Jill and Derick revealed on their website that Derick had joined the Marine Corps and would soon be shipping out to Quantico, Virginia, to attend Marine Corps Officer Candidate School (OCS).
“Lord willing he will commission as an officer at the end of OCS and then go on to a couple of other trainings before getting his assignment as a Marine Corps JAG officer,” the couple wrote.
The former TLC stars went on to tell fans that Derick had wanted to become a JAG– or Judge Advocate General– for a long time. (For those wondering, a JAG is a “commissioned officer and qualified attorney who provides legal services, advice, and counsel to Marine Corps commands and personnel.”)
In April, Jill told followers on Instagram that after Derrick completed OCS and was Commissioned as a Second Lieutenant, he would be moving on to “Basic School, then Naval Justice School.”
As The Ashley previously reported, Derick graduated from the University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville, Arkansas, in 2021. The following year, he was sworn in as a licensed lawyer in both Arkansas and Oklahoma, before becoming an assistant district attorney.
Before attending law school, Derick (along with Jill) worked as a missionary in El Salvador– something he did after working as an accountant for Walmart.
In May 2025, Jill confirmed to fans that Derick had left his job as an assistant district attorney after three years and would be “taking a sabbatical period,” during which he would be “working on some personal endeavors.”
“A very welcomed change of pace for all of us!!” Jill stated at the time.
Per the Dillard’s previous update, now that Derick has completed OCS, Jill and the couple’s three sons will be moving to Rhode Island to join Derick as he completes additional training.
