Mike “Sugar Bear” Thompson– the ex of Mama June Shannon and dad of Alana Thompson– is, once again, engaged to be married. 

On Sunday, the former ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo’ and ‘Mama June: Family Crisis’ star appeared in a series of photos on TikTok alongside a woman named Taylor Star, who was sporting a diamond engagement ring. 

While Taylor didn’t confirm in her post that she and Sugar Bear are getting hitched, she liked multiple comments from followers congratulating her and her husband-to-be, suggesting that this was the couple’s official announcement.   

There were also a few comments on Taylor’s post from people asking, “what happened to Jennifer [Lamb]”– the woman Sugar Bear was married to when fans last saw him on TV. Taylor received a similar comment earlier this month after posting her first photo with Sugar Bear. In response, Taylor assured the fan that Jennifer and Sugar Bear had “divorced some years ago.” 

While Sugar Bear and Jennifer tied the knot in 2017, Jennifer announced on social media in December 2021 that the two had gone their “separate ways.” 

“Yes, it’s hard but we will work through it and we will still remain friends,” she wrote on Facebook at the time, as reported by In Touch. “So now when everyone sees us and we are not together everyone will know what’s going on.” 

After his marriage to Jennifer ended, Sugar Bear went on to start a relationship with a woman named Heather Rood, though the two appear to have called it quits sometime in late 2022. 

It’s unknown how long Sugar Bear and Taylor have been together, and it’s also unknown how (or if) Alana reacted to the news of her dad’s impending nuptials.  

As The Ashley reported in May 2025, June– who split from Sugar Bear in 2014– revealed that, while “everybody always” asks about her ex-husband, she hadn’t spoken with him in years. June also claimed at the time that Sugar Bear “hasn’t had anything to do with Alana” in more than a decade. According to June, Alana and Sugar Bear’s estrangement was not caused by herself or Alana, but rather a choice that Sugar Bear “made at the end of the day.” 

June also claimed last year that Sugar Bear was hoping to be “back on the show,” though she insisted that it will never happen.

In addition to being estranged from her father, Alana spoke out on a 2022 episode of the Dumb Blonde podcast about the abuse her older sister Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon claimed to have suffered at the hands of Sugar Bear. Pumpkin– who was also on the episode– and Alana also opened up about the fact that the alleged abuse had been overlooked by those working on the production of the family’s TV shows. 

Years earlier, June had admitted on social media and in a series of interviews that Sugar Bear had been abusive towards Pumpkin, even citing a specific instance of abuse that had been played off as a “freak accident” on an episode of ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.’ 

At this time, June and the rest of her family have not commented on Sugar Bear’s engagement.
