Amber Portwood took a long (much-needed) break from social media and, in that time, she apparently secured herself a new boyfriend— someone she insists is calm, positive and the complete opposite of herself!
The ‘Teen Mom’ star sung her new boo’s praises in a video released to her new YouTube channel on Thursday. While the majority of the video featured Amber giving insight into her life as a person with bipolar disorder, she did “let it slip” that she’s in a relationship with this “calm” mystery man (whom The Ashley will be calling “Possible Gary 3.0” until further notice).
“My boyfriend— who I’ve been with for almost a year now— he’s my anchor; he’s very calm,” Amber said.
She went on to describe the man as being “very different from me in all ways,” due to the fact that he’s from a “sweet Catholic family” that doesn’t cuss or “do stuff like that.”
Amber— who has notoriously chosen terrible men— claimed that her current boyfriend being different from her makes their relationship work.
“That’s exactly what I needed, you know?” she said. “It’s kind of like a positive needs a negative, to get together and make it. So it’s kind of like that.”
Although Amber is probably the absolute last person any ‘Teen Mom’ fan would take partner-choosing advice from, she still gave her viewers tips for finding their special someone.
“If you have a partner, make sure whatever partner you’re with is a good partner and understands [the mental illness] you have and really wants to be there for you,” she said. “But never put it on them; kind of let them be your anchor, you know?”
Amber has yet to provide the important details about her new boyfriend (such as where/how the met and, of course, if his name is Gary).
As fans will remember, Amber’s had extremely bad luck in the relationship department. Her last boyfriend— Gary Wayt— proposed to her on-camera….only to purposely go missing while they were on vacation together. Amber launched an all-out search for Gary 2.0 after reporting him as missing to authorities.
Gary later resurfaced and it was discovered that he had disappeared on purpose, leaving Amber devastated.
Before the Great Gary Hunt, Amber notoriously dated (and was engaged to) Matt Baier for years, before discovering he was a scam artist for took her money, lied about the plethora of kids he had abandoned and more.
Amber also dated (and was engaged to) Gary Shirley, with whom she shares 17-year-old estranged daughter Leah with. She shares her son James with her ex-boyfriend Andrew Glennon.
In the new YouTube video, Amber also discussed how she’s had to cut all of her friends (and even ‘Teen Mom’) out of her life, due to people not understanding or wanting to deal with her bipolar disorder.
“Make sure, also, the person that you’re with and the people you’re surrounding yourself with understand you as well, because if they don’t, get them the f**k out of there,” she said. “I dropped all of my f**king friends that couldn’t understand me. I dropped them all, every single one of them. I was like, ‘Bye!’
“I dropped the whole damn show,” she continued, obviously referring to when she “quit” ‘Teen Mom’ last year. “I don’t give a f**k… that’s how it goes. If you don’t want to understand me but I’ll understand you going through this, f**k you then. That’s fine.”
Amber is likely referring to her ‘Teen Mom’ co-stars Maci Bookout and Catelynn Lowell, whom she was very close with up until last year. In March 2025, Amber flipped off Maci and Catelynn on TikTok Live, denying that the girls have been good friends to her, as one fan stated. The next day, Amber was back on Live, apologizing to her friends for giving them the double bird salute. Two months later, though, Amber stated on TikTok Live that Maci and Cate had “turned on” her for money.
In November 2025, Catelynn Lowell shared how concerned she was for Amber’s mental health, and revealed she had offered to take Amber to get help.
“Honestly, Cate, I think I just need more puppets.”
“I was like, ‘Let’s go. I will fly with you, I will take you there. I feel like it would benefit you so much,’” Catelynn said. “And she always just denies it, so I’m just kind of at the point now where I’m like, ‘You know you’re not happy fully. You know that there’s stuff that you could work on to help you get there.’ I’m sick of just, I don’t know, bringing it up and you don’t want to better yourself. So, I’m just kind of like — I take a step back — and I’m just like, ‘Well … whatever.’”
According to Catelynn, Amber wasn’t open to accepting her help and instead turned on her and Maci.
“You want to go online and talk crap about me and Maci when we’ve been the two people that have literally tried to help you this whole time,” Catelynn said at the time. “…I think it gets annoying when you see that someone could benefit from [getting help] so much and they know deep down that they would too, and they just don’t want to do it for themselves. I’m wiping my hands.”
It is unknown if Amber made up with Maci and/or Catelynn in the time she was off social media.

I bet her boyfriend is that dude who was always with her when she was live? Of course, he is married though but I doubt that would stop Amber.
