The payroll at Bravo just got a little smaller.
The network revealed on Wednesday that it had terminated Below Deck Mediterranean star Peter Hunziker over a racist social media post from his past. As for the remainder of the season, the network and production company 51 Minds will be “editing the show to minimize his appearance for subsequent episodes.”
(This has been what MTV has been doing with the shows featuring its recently fired stars as well.)
According to Daily Mail, the shocking racist in question post was reportedly a meme reposted by Peter featuring a naked Black woman in shackles. The meme, which Peter shared in his Instagram Story, was allegedly brought to Bravo’s attention last week, at which time Peter got the boot from Bravo.
‘Below Deck Med’ is currently three episodes into Season 5 and even before his racist post, Peter was far from being a fan favorite, due in large part to his habit of calling his on-screen boss “sweetie” and “sweetheart.”
Peter’s firing from Bravo comes on the heels of Bravo terminating Vanderpump Rules stars Stassi Schroeder and Kristen Doute for racist actions against their former co-star Faith Stowers, and Max Boyens and Brett Caprioni for past racist tweets.
While Peter is the fifth Bravo star to be publicly fired for issues related to racism, other networks have also booted stars from their reality shows due to the stars’ past racist or racially insensitive words or actions.
Lifetime booted Abby Lee Miller earlier this month, cancelling her upcoming show, Abby Lee’s Virtual Dance Off, from Lifetime’s programming schedule before it even premiered, due to past racist comments she made to cast members on her other show, Dance Moms.
Peter has yet to comment publicly on his firing.
