Lala Kent Opens Up About ‘Vanderpump Rules’ Firings & Scheana Shay Confirms Remaining Cast Hasn’t Started Filming Season 9 Yet

“We’re ready when you are!”

While some reality TV shows have begun taking steps to safely resume filming despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Vanderpump Rules has yet to take the plunge.

Us Weekly reports that for the first time in eight years, Bravo cameras aren’t capturing the summer drama going down at SUR, as production on Season 9 has yet to even begin.

The no-go on filming was confirmed by cast member Scheana Shay after her relocation from Los Angeles to San Diego to be with boyfriend Brock Davies led fans to speculate she was hanging up her collection of flimsy SUR cocktail dresses and leaving the show behind.

“Y’all just bc I’m moving now, does NOT mean I’m quitting the show,” Scheana tweeted. “I love my job! We aren’t filming right now. SUR/LA is closed. I’m wasting so much $ on rent and I’m lonely all the way out in PS. It just makes sense. Once work opens/picks back up, I will too have an apt in LA!”

When probed by a fan if she was confirming the show would in fact be returning for another season, Scheana said she wasn’t “confirming nor denying anything,” adding that she only knows as much as the fans do.

As to when (or if?) the show plans to resume production, a source told the site a date has not been confirmed, aside from the vague timeframe of “this summer.” While SUR began opening earlier this month, establishments were ultimately put on lockdown once again after California Governor Gavin Newsom announced re-closures in Los Angeles, including indoor restaurants.

A source for Us Weekly reports that the SUR “staff has not heard from [owners] Lisa [Vanderpump] or Ken [Todd].”

“Lisa? I don’t know anyone by that name?!”

Assuming the show does make its way back to the Bravo lineup, it will, of course, have fewer cast members slinging drinks in slow-motion in the show’s intro, given the recent axings of Stassi Schroeder and Kristen Doute, who were fired for racist actions against former cast member Faith Stowers stemming from a 2018 incident, as well as newcomers Max Boyens and Brett Caprioni, who both got the Bravo boot over some past racist tweets.

With Max and Brett being new to the group, their absences will likely go unnoticed; however, cast member Lala Kent said she’s still trying to process the loss of OGs Stassi and Kristen.

“To me, when people ask me how I feel about [their firings] — I try to not really get into it,” she said on Instagram Live. “I will say that them not being on the show anymore hasn’t sunk in yet because we’ve had such, like, this crazy ride together and our life consists of each other.”

She then compared the deaths of Stassi’s and Kristen’s careers to an actual death.

“You know when someone passes and you’re still fine because your body goes into shock, like you’re not used to it,” Lala said.. “That’s what it feels like.”

  1. Thank god that winer Stassi is gone. What a misplaced princess !!!! Now only her husband has to deal with her crap. Never knew what she brought to the show. Thank you bravo for giving her the axe. !!

Bring Stassi back! She was my favorite and I’m a black female. You guys are rushing to judgement about her. She’s just a high demand women.

  4. You were kind to Lala. What she actually said was compared their firings to a death. Tactless, as per usual. She’s not worried, though, she’s going to be on Vanderpump Dogs. A show I will not be bothered with.

    1. I agree! I don’t watch animal shows. Something always sad. Fire Jax! Vanderpump Rules is done! I think they might come back with TomTom and since Jax has no part in that business, he can just go away. I do hope Brittney takes the Beau approach and says she won’t film without her husband.

  5. I hate to say it, but, I’ve never seen a show go downhill as quickly as VPR did!! The first few seasons were great and then, out of nowhere, the last 3 seasons weren’t even worth watching!! That’s what happens, though, when they refuse to let a show go out gracefully like they should!! This last season was the absolute worst and now, unfortunately, it’s done and that’s what people are going to remember it for…the horrible newbies and the OGs played out storylines!! With California getting rocked with the virus and SUR unable to open for the foreseeable future, they have even less of a storyline! I think BRAVO will use this to finally make the decision to pull the plug!! Firing Stassi & Kristin was just the nail in the coffin!! No wonder why Lisa is now trying out the awful VP Dogs idea!! Wonder how many of the OGS decide they all a sudden want to pull a LaLa and “volunteer”??! RIP VPR!!!

    1. You have to admit, Stassi was the queen of the show. And Lala’s new face is tragic. She was absolutely gorgeous before she had all that work done, what a shame…

      1. I agree about Lala…Her face is too sharp now or something, it’s very aggressive and almost cartoonish/scary looking now. It’s sad that a lot of the people in that industry (especially in the reality TV area) who were beautiful before, give in to the pressures and irreversibly destroy their faces and bodies.
