Collin Gosselin Says He’s Open to Reconciling with Mom Kate If She Will “Come Forward with the Truth” About Allegedly Abusing Him as Child

“Yeah, me, too…assuming you’re open to letting a film crew tag along for this mother-son reunion.”

Trigger Warning: The story contains mentions of child abuse and domestic violence.

Collin Gosselin revealed this week that he’s open to reconciling with his estranged mother, Kate Gosselin, despite accusing her in September of abusing him as a child and sending him off to a mental health facility in order to keep the alleged abuse hidden. Collin did say, however, that his mom must be willing to “come forward with the truth” about her alleged abuse of him if she wants to reconcile.

As The Ashley previously reported, Collin also claimed last month that when he was around eight or nine years old, Kate would zip-tie his hands and feet and lock him in a special room in the basement, where he was allegedly kept “most of the day.” He also accused his mom of being physically aggressive and “very emotionally abusive.”

“Who, ME?!”

In response to Collin’s accusations, Kate’s lawyer, Richard Puelo, said that Kate did not want to comment on the allegations, as “it’s not going to change the past,” and “because she always knows that this gets taken out of context.”

Despite Kate seemingly side-stepping Collin’s claims, the 20-year-old recently told The Sun that he’s actually open to mending the relationship with his mom, but admits that his “top priority” is to reconnect with his siblings.

“So first and foremost, my relationship with my brothers and sisters is of top priority to me,” he told the outlet, referring to brothers Aaden and Joel and sisters Leah, Alexis, Mady and Cara, who remained in Kate’s custody until adulthood, unlike Collin and his sister Hannah, who were placed in their dad Jon Gosselin’s custody in 2018.

Collin went on to say that the only way he believes he and Kate can “reconnect” and fix their relationship is if Kate comes forward with the truth “and all the things that she had kept under wraps.”

“ … and, you know, the many times that she’s tried to soil my name and my father’s name,” he continued. “I just would want her to come forward with the truth.”

Collin added that if Kate were to do this, the door would be “100 percent” open for reconciliation.

One thing both Collin and Jon have accused Kate of being untruthful about in the past is her claim that Collin was placed in a mental health facility in 2016 for behavioral issues and because he had “special needs.” (Jon and Collin have denied for years that Collin has “special needs.”)

In August, Collin revealed that Kate’s decision to place him in a mental health facility as a child had resulted in him being “discharged” from the Marines in 2023– not long after Kate took to social media to respond to claims Collin, Jon and Hannah made about her in VICE TV’s Dark Side of the 2000s docuseries.

In a lengthy statement posted to Instagram, Kate insisted that Collin “has received multiple psychiatric diagnoses over the years,” and that he was placed in the mental health facility “for the safety of myself, his brothers and sisters and for his own well-being.” She went on to allege that Collin has a history of “attacks/outbursts,” which she claimed had “sadly continued regularly,” even after Jon gained custody of the teen.

“ … Collin’s distorted perception of reality is one of the many issues that he has always struggled with,” she added in her statement.

Collin– who is currently enrolled in college, but hopes to return to the Marine Corps. to finish his training– said he believes his discharge from the military stemmed from Kate’s post “and the attention it got.” He has since undergone a professional psychiatric evaluation, which he claims “ruled out all of these diagnoses.”

“It really wasn’t a surprise to me, the conclusion of that evaluation that I got done,” he told The Sun. “ … We’ve always known this would be the conclusion, however, getting that done and actually following through with that, especially after the event of my discharge in the Marine Corps. That was something that I felt was very necessary and it was a huge relief, and a huge weight lifted off my shoulders.”

  1. Good luck with that.

One thing most ppl are physically unable to do is admit when they’re wrong. Especially ppl like his mother.

I hope the siblings reconcile, though.
