“90 Day Fiancé” Star Sumit Singh Starts Visa Process to Accompany Wife Jenny Slatten to U.S. for ALS Treatment

“USA, here we come!”

Sumit Singh is working to obtain a visa that will allow him to accompany wife Jenny Slatten to the United States where she can receive treatment for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) using her medical insurance.

As The Ashley previously reported, the 90 Day Fiancé couple revealed in May that Jenny was diagnosed with ALS in December. Since then, the couple has regularly posted updates about Jenny’s health on social media and they continue to receive donations through a GoFundMe that was launched by a friend in May in order to help with increasing medical care costs. (At this time, more than $96,000 has been donated to the online fundraiser.)

On Wednesday, Jenny’s daughter Christina Cuevas posted a major update on her mom and Sumit’s behalf, where she revealed that Sumit is currently going through the process of obtaining a visa in India that will allow him to travel to the U.S. with Jenny.

“We’ve started the visa process for Sumit to come to the U.S. to bring my mom so that she can come here and get more treatment using her insurance,” Christina said, adding that her mom has already received a doctor’s note that states her diagnosis, indicates that she cannot travel alone and recognizes that “Sumit has become her full-time caregiver as her husband.”

Christina went on to tell fans that while speaking to her senator’s office the previous day, it was explained to her that India (where Sumit is from and where he and Jenny currently live), Thailand and the U.S. have the “busiest visa hubs in the world.” Because of this, Christina said, “it still might take some time for [Sumit] to get a visa, if he can get a visa at all.”

“ … We have applied for an emergency tourist spousal visa, not for a green card, only for a tourist visa,” Christina explained. “It’s a lot longer of a process to try to get a green card, especially right now, they’re not making it easy for anyone, so we’re going the tourist route.

“ … So we’ve started [the process] and we’re waiting for the Indian consulate to give Sumit his appointment,” she continued. “As of right now, we’re still waiting on the appointment and there has been no update on when that will happen for him to go in front of the consulate.”

Christina claimed that the process to obtain a visa is different in India than it is in the U.S., though she noted that the process for Sumit is expected to be challenging and costly. Despite that, she assured fans that all parties are “working on it” and trying their “damnedest to get Sumit here with [her] mom.”

Christina also revealed that she will be traveling to India in a few of weeks “to assist Sumit” in the visa process, and in the event that he and Jenny end up coming to the U.S., she wants to ensure that “it’s easy for them.”

“ … I want it to be seamless, especially for Sumit coming to a whole other country … I just want to be there to assist and make sure everything goes smoothly, not only for my mom, but for Sumit as well,” she said.

As you may remember, Jenny confirmed in one of her and Sumit’s updates last month that she does not have health insurance in India. Sumit then explained that Jenny hadn’t returned to the U.S. to seek medical care because she cannot travel alone and he’s unable to obtain a travel visa that would allow him to stay in the U.S. longterm. Sumit noted at the time that he would travel to the U.S. for Jenny to seek medical care if necessary, though he and Jenny would only do so if they knew they would “definitely find a better solution” in the U.S. than what is offered in India.

The couple also claimed in their video last month that while Jenny’s two daughters live in the U.S. and have offered to help the pair, Christina and Dominique “have their own lives.”

“I don’t want to be a burden,” Jenny added, to which Dominique later took to the comments to respond.

“I would love to have you here and that’s what us children are for but I know you won’t be happy and you want to be with your husband,” Dominque wrote. “I get it 100 [percent] but I just wanted you to know don’t ever think you would be a burden in my life. I’m [used] to taking care of people lol. I love you so much!! ❤️❤️

“Sumit, thank you for all you’re doing to take care of my mom ❤️,” she added.

As for the latest on Jenny’s health, Christina told fans this week that she spoke to her mom Wednesday morning and learned that Jenny is now experiencing weakness in her hands, preventing her from doing things like opening a bottle of water or anything with a twist cap.

“She said she’s still able to hold her phone and [hold] a drink, but as far as opening something, she can no longer do that,”Christina added.
