While firing back at critics online this week, Mama June Shannon revealed that her 21-year-old daughter Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson is currently taking a GLP-1 weight-loss medication.
June shared the news on Facebook this week after a video she posted from Alana’s 21st birthday celebration garnered a heap of hurtful comments from people hating on Alana’s appearance, specifically the ‘Mama June: Family Crisis’ star’s weight.

“Not trying to be mean but please talk to Alana about getting on [GLP-1s],” one person commented, to which June replied, “She is on Wegovy pills.”
(For those wondering, Wegovy is one of many GLP-1 medications currently offered to treat individuals with Type 2 diabetes, obesity and other weight-related medical conditions, according to the Mayo Clinic. These medications can be taken via injection or pill form.)
Before June revealed the news about her daughter’s GLP-1 journey, the WeTV star had already begun firing back in the comment section at those criticizing Alana’s weight. Most of the negative comments on June’s post argued that, as someone who’s currently in nursing school, Alana “should know her [weight] is unhealthy.”
“Can you stop being a bitch and judging people and judge yourself,” June replied to one of her daughter’s detractors.
In another reply, June insisted that an individual’s appearance has nothing to do with the way that person does their job. She also argued that being overweight doesn’t necessarily mean that a person is unhealthy.
“ … just because you’re overweight does not mean that you’re not f**king healthy because there’s bitches that are skinny as f**k [and] unhealthy as f**k,” she wrote.

As fans of ‘Mama June’ know, Alana and her boyfriend Dralin Carswell moved to Denver, Colorado, in the summer of
2023 after Alana was accepted to Regis University, where she’s now studying to become a pediatric nurse. (Alana– who is reportedly set to graduate from nursing school in 2029– announced at the time that she was not only accepted to the university, but received a $21,000 scholarship, as well.)

In March, Alana posted an update on her nursing school journey to social media, telling fans, “I know every single day I’m getting a little stronger, a little smarter, and a little closer to the nurse I’ve always dreamed of becoming.”
“This journey hasn’t been easy, but my heart is in it, and one day I’m going to be an amazing pediatric nurse,” she continued.
While Alana has yet to comment on (or confirm) her mom’s GLP-1 claims, she has posted a few workout videos to social media this year, suggesting that she’s already begun focusing on her health and wellness.

but honestly can everyone just stfu about her weight though? obviously she knows all this and doesn’t need all of your annoying a$$es constantly mentioning it, she’s literally the least problematic person in her family and is already doing better than most of them and you annoying haters anyway, and she’s not even that active online anymore but when she is she posts videos of her working out so get off her d!ck already
Being a nurse doesn’t magically make you able to fight the obvious genetics and lifestyle factors at play with Alanna. Nursing school doesn’t teach you much of anything about nutrition beyond certain conditions (ex: diabetics need a balance of carbs, protein and fats to keep their glucose stable, and how to recognize and treat the changes.) also, the lifestyle of a college student has the “freshman 15” moniker for good reason. Lastly, June, just because you blasted your plastic surgery on TV for cash doesn’t mean that your daughter wants her info out there.
She was prediabetic years ago on the show. Doctors told her she was unhealthy then and that she needed to lose weight. And that if she didn’t diabetes is in her future which then causes more health issues.
Just about every scene with Alana last year was here eating ice cream and fried foods and a lot of it. You want to be unhealthy then be unhealthy. But she has continued to gain more weight since she has gone to college which means her eating habits has gotten even worse and yes her health is in jeopardy.
I can see why people would want a nurse to be more health conscious. Her entire family is overweight and unfortunately it seems to be passing down generationally to Pumpkin’s kids. Again you want to be unhealthy for you please do but they might want to think about modifying their eating habits so the kids will know how to eat right.
Whenever someone starts a sentence with “not trying to be mean/rude” that’s exactly what they are doing.
Considering that Alana is away from her family. Living on her own and in college. I’m not going to make negative comments on her weight. I hope she is able to achieve all her goals.
