Jax Taylor & Brittany Cartwright Announce They’re Leaving ‘Vanderpump Rules’ But Say They’ll “Be Back on Your TVs Soon!” Did They Quit or Were They Fired?

“Quit…fired…does it really matter?”

The list of Vanderpump Rules cast departures has grown by two — Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright will not be returning next season.

Variety reported Friday that Jax, who has been with the show since the beginning, had been fired and that wife Brittany also would not be returning. (Fans had been calling for him to be axed since this summer, when several of his ‘Vanderpump Rules’ costars got fired for offensive and racist behavior.) He did, however, promise that we have not seen the last of him and Brittany and that they would be back on TV “soon.”

On social media, the expectant parents made it sound like the departure was their idea in nearly identical statements, causing fans to wonder what the real story was behind the couple’s exit.

“The last 8 years on Vanderpump Rules have been some of the most challenging, rewarding and fulfilling years of my life. Although this is difficult to share, Brittany and I will not be returning for another season of Vanderpump Rules,” Jax wrote on Instagram.

“We are excited to take this time to focus on our growing family and share with you our new endeavors. @bravotv, @evolutionusa and our Vanderpump castmates will always remain close to our hearts. Thank you to all the fans who have shared our journey with us and supported us through everything. We love you. Stay tuned, we can’t wait for to share what we have planned. Have a great weekend.”

Brittany’s statement was similarly worded and, like Jax’s, promised fans that they’d be back in the spotlight in some capacity.

“The last 5 years on Vanderpump Rules have been some of the most challenging, rewarding and fulfilling years of my life. Although this is difficult to share, Jax and I will not be returning for another season of Vanderpump Rules. We are excited to take this time to focus on our growing family and share with you our new endeavors. @bravotv, @evolutionusa and our Vanderpump castmates will always remain close to our hearts. Thank you to all the fans who have shared our journey with us and supported us through everything. We love you. Stay tuned.” Brittany posted.

Citing Jax’s history of making racist and bigoted remarks toward other ‘Vanderpump Rules’ stars, fans called for Jax to be fired this summer after four cast members including Stassi Schroeder and Kristen Doute were axed for racist behavior. Lance Bass, friend of show matriarch Lisa Vanderpump and a former business partner of Jax’s, predicted Jax would be fired back in June.

“Look, I do not see Bravo keeping him,” Lance said in an interview at the time. “I have a feeling soon it’s going to be done, cause this will get bigger and bigger.”

“For reals. I basically make the rules on ‘Vanderpump Rules.'”

According to Jax and Brittany, the choice to leave was all theirs. Jax responded to one Instagram commenter that the baby he and Brittany are expecting was the main reason for their departure.

“We are very happy, I can’t fake work at sur at 41 anymore done of for the past 5 years and have a baby it makes zero sense,” he wrote in the comment section.

“I am 41 with a baby on the way … was the best choice for my family,” he told another commenter.”

“I just couldn’t see doing this same type of show with a child,” he told another person. “My marriage and my family are more important. I am excited now to be a fan.”

“I wouldn’t go back if they begged me. Which I’m sure they will. Yep, any time now…they’ll be begging…”

Jax responded to other questions left in the comment section of his post (but curiously he did not respond to any that asked if he was fired.)

“Because it’s time to move on,” Jax wrote in the comment section of his post. “We had a good run. It doesn’t make sense anymore.”

“[The] show is not aligned with our lifestyle anymore,” Jax told one person.

He also insisted that he knew that he and Brittany would not remain on the show. (Of course, this is odd, being that just a few months ago he talked about the show resuming filming.)

“I’ve known now for a few months we were just going in a different direction in our lives,” Jax wrote.

“Sure Jan, I mean Jax. Sure…”

He also agreed with one commenter who stated that he and Brittany “are wayyy too old for this show.”

While Jax may agree that ‘Vanderpump Rules’ is not a good fit for his family anymore, he seems to have no problem being on reality TV in general. He also hinted in a comment on Brittany’s post that they have a new project in the works, posting, “On to the next chapter, we had a great run. Can’t wait to share what we have in store with everyone.”

“Trust me we have some great things on the way!” he told another person in a comment. “We are so excited for the future.”

In another comment, he promised that we would be seeing his and Brittany’s mugs again soon.

“[We’ll] be back on your TVs soon don’t worry,” he wrote.

Current ‘Vanderpump Rules’ cast members have yet to respond to Jax and Brittany’s departure, though Stassi and Kristen each showed their support for the couple via Instagram comments.

The state of the show itself is currently unknown. On Friday, Tamara Tattles reported that ‘Vanderpump Rules’ has been cancelled. (Bravo and Lisa Vanderpump have yet to confirm this though, so consider it a “rumor” until further notice.)

The site also reported that Jax and Brittany were trying to get their own spin-off show through Evolution Media, the company behind ‘Vanderpump Rules,’ but were unsuccessful.

“Jax was angling for a spin-off series for him and Brittany and Evolution asked Bravo and they stated they were not interested in one starring him and Brittany at this time,” the site reports.

The Ashley will update this story when more info is available.

  1. Thank god, these two are awful. This show needs a complete re-cast if they want it to be successful again. It needs to be about the staff at SUR again.

  2. Of course they didn’t leave voluntarily. Those two would never give up their paychecks. Their “announcements” are the canned Bravo statements that all fired Bravolebrities use.

Curious what network would actually want to work with them. Supposedly it’s a baby spinoff show that is being proposed. Bravo is going to bring Stassi back anytime soon, so which network would they go to? MTV?
