“90 Day Fiance” Season 2 Star Jason Hitch Dead at 45 From COVID-19 Complications; His Ex-Wife Cassia Taraves Speaks Out

Jason Hitch— who starred on the second season of 90 Day Fiance— has died.

Fans first met Jason in 2014 when he and his then-wife Cassia Taraves appeared on the show. According to Jason’s sister, the 45-year-old died on Tuesday night from complications from COVID-19, which he had been in the ICU battling.

TMZ— which broke the news of Jason’s death— stated that Jason had his family present with him in the Florida hospital when he died. Jason’s sister claims that Jason was not vaccinated against COVID-19 and did not have any known preexisting medical conditions.

Jason and Cassia were well-known in the “90 Day Fiance” fan world, for the drama surrounding their relationship and eventual split. The couple separated in 2017 and went on to file for divorce in 2018. Their tumultuous relationship was filled with restraining orders, drama and even Jason being arrested in 2017 for domestic battery.

Jason and Cassia in happier times…

Along the way, Jason gave The Ashley several interviews, which you can read here and here.

He stated back in 2015 that he did have some regrets about what happened on “90 Day Fiance.”

I don’t regret being on the show,” he told The Ashley. “I do regret some of the decisions I made throughout the negotiation process with the production company. I gave them too much credit. I trusted them too much. Big mistake.”

Before appearing on reality TV, Jason served as a first lieutenant in the Army reserves in Florida.

Danielle Jbali, another “90 Day Fiance” Season 2 cast member, paid tribute to Jason on social media.

“RIP Jason Hitch,” she wrote in the caption of a group photo featuring both her and Jason. “Jason was on Season 2 with me.”

TLC– the network that airs “90 Day Fiance” also issued a statement to People magazine on Wednesday.

“We are saddened to hear about the passing of Jason Hitch and send our sincere condolences to his family and friends at this time,” the network stated.

UPDATE: Jason’s ex-wife Cassia has spoken out about Jason’s death. On Thursday, she posted a message to Instagram Stories.

“It’s always sad when someone you spent part of your life with stops breathing,” she wrote. “I guess one could never be prepared for that. I wasn’t, today. When I started receiving messages, I thought it was a joke. I’m shocked. My condolences to his family and friends. Rest in Peace, Jason.”

Cassia also scolded her fellow “90 Day Fiance” alum Nicole Nafziger for posting clickbait about Jason’s death and essentially profiting off of it.

“I get all of that ‘link in bio’ BS, but trying to make money off someone’s death is a new kind of low!” Cassia wrote, tagging Nicole in the post. “It hurts me that I have to bring it up like this, but someone needed to tell you in public. JUST STOP.”‘

  1. People begging for the vaccine when they end up in hospital with covid, sadly too late by then. It’s not 100% going to stop you dying but it makes it much less likely, that’s obvious. I don’t understand why people risk it, but their choice I suppose. Seems a bit selfish to me.

  2. I actually have known someone personally that died from covid, who was also vaccinated. It happens, you can also just Google the statistics.

    1. Whelp, I’m just an internet stranger so grain of salt and all… I HAD Covid in Feb 2020. I was actually in the ICU on oxygen when the POTUS announced, “15 cases” like no big deal. It took me 18 months to recover. I was only 36 when I got it and my family truly believed I wouldn’t make it to 40. I lost 100 lbs, all my hair fell out, and had kidney and oxygen issues.

I was fully vaccinated (once my Dr felt it was safe for me) this July… within 2 months my stats had improved greatly and my Dr was shocked. I’m actually building muscles, the hair is growing back, and no detectable kidney or lung issues. Take that however you would like.

Also, just because you’re vaccinated doesn’t mean you won’t catch Covid or even die from it, but it lessens the impact. All of my grandparents are vaccinated and 2 still got Covid. But only one needed the hospital and all are still alive and well into their 80s.

    1. I have family who have gotten it and were vaccinated and who have died from it and was vaccinated. It has nothing to do with it now. Unfortunately this man lost his life from something terrible happening in the world.

      1. We all know you’re making up stories here. You don’t know anyone who was vaccinated who died from covid. You people have no shame. Get vaccinated.

People are willing to take any cocktail the Internet suggests without any clinical trial data, but refuse a vaccine with actual trial and post market data. People don’t need to die like this.

        1. You are sadly mistaken- I know TWO people, personally, that were vaccinated that died from COVID. One was a family member and one was a friends husband. Ever Heard of Colin Powell? He was vaccinated and died from it. So no, it’s no myth (eyeroll). It just makes you less likely to die (supposedly). No one is making up stories. But stay ignorant!

          1. Colin Powell was also battling cancer and had a depressed immune system, which is why it’s so important for healthy people to be immunized and protect those who are at increased risk.

The deaths that you are seeing in vaccinated people are people who have major comorbidities. Not healthy but ignorant 42 year olds.

        2. Ok. Because you know strangers personal lives. I know many who got it still after and also family friends and relatives who died after still getting their shots. I don’t need to tell you their obituary, you don’t know them. Nor will it tell you how anyway.
