In between cranking out chaotic Cameos and continuously commenting on the current season of “Mama June: Family Crisis”, Mama June Shannon took to social media this week to call out her former son-in-law Josh Efird for his alleged history of drug use– something June claims was never talked about publicly due to the father of five “being protected.”
She went on to accuse Josh of doing the “same s**t” she was doing seven years ago (i.e. drugs), and even insinuated that her former cracked-out soulmate, Geno Doak, informed her of Josh’s alleged drug use but she kept it quiet.
As viewers know, June’s daughter Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon and Josh split in August 2024 after six years of marriage and four children together; their divorce was finalized the following month. After calling it quits, Pumpkin and Josh quickly moved on to new relationships, with Pumpkin dating Darrin Kitchens (who happens to be Josh’s cousin) and Josh dating a woman named Keely. After splitting from Keely, Josh began dating Breanna Godwin, who went on to give birth to his fifth child in May 2025.
Within weeks of Pumpkin and Josh announcing their split, June insisted that she had “no ill will” towards Josh; however, by the end of 2024, she appeared to begin changing her tune, revealing in an interview with People that she had tried to convince Pumpkin not to marry Josh, and even blaming him for causing a rift between her and Pumpkin.
Since then, there have continued to be ups and downs between Josh and his ex-wife and former in-laws, and just days ago, June and Breanna exchanged (many, many) words on social media regarding a video of Pumpkin and Breanna twerking that was allegedly recorded at Jessica Shannon and fiancée Shyann McCant’s bachelorette party.
On the heels of that particular feud, June took to TikTok to keep the contention coming by claiming that Josh had a history of drug use that had gone unnoticed because “he was being protected.” According to June, she has been holding back this information about her former son-in-law “for 10 g**damn years.”
“ … I’ll tell you like this, there was s**t that I was doing seven years ago that Joshua Efird was doing, but it wasn’t talked about because he was being protected– not by Pumpkin, not by anybody else, ‘cause Pumpkin was over and done with it … she found out about that one on his birthday,” June claimed.
As you may recall, before June got hitched to current husband Justin Stroud, she was in a toxic as hell relationship with boyfriend (and fellow drug addict) Geno. The gruesome-twosome were literally partners in crime, getting arrested for crack in March 2019 following a dispute at a gas station. June (and Geno) eventually turned things around by checking into rehab in January 2020, though the two went on to split in 2021, shortly after celebrating one year of sobriety together.
Amid her attempted TikTok take-down of Josh, June acknowledged her past addiction issues, while alleging that, unlike Josh, she didn’t have “f**king dealers out to get [her]” as her “drug debts were paid.”
Despite claiming that she remained in good standing with her drug dealer(s) back in the day, June went on to reveal that she did purchase drugs from Josh’s alleged dealer on one occasion.
“ … The one person that he is associated with, his friend that he introduced me and Geno to, I only got [drugs] off of one time, but how many times did [Josh] get [drugs] off of them?” June asked, before going on to shrug her shoulders.
June then revealed to fans how she allegedly found out that Josh was using drugs.
“ … I found out what Josh was doing because him and Geno went to the casino, Harrah’s Cherokee North Carolina, by theyselves and Geno said, ‘I gotta tell you something,’” she claimed, encouraging fans to “go back and look at old videos” of Josh at that time.
June calling out her former son-in-law’s alleged history of drug use comes just weeks after she told fans on social media that a “huge secret” about Josh was set to drop later this season on ‘Mama June: Family Crisis,’ which she claimed would make people “see that Josh isn’t Mr. Perfect.”
“There’s a huge secret that has been closed behind the scenes that we haven’t discussed, but cameras were there and [caught] it when we were in Florida back in the end of October and y’all are gonna see that,” June wrote. “Trust me. I’ve been silenced tons in a relationship when it comes to not just physical, but emotional domestic violence situations it’s not just the physical part. The emotional part is so much more and I think that [Pumpkin] coming forward and telling her side finally even if Josh doesn’t like it f**k that everybody deserves a voice … .
“ … some people will continue to blame Pumpkin and that’s fine but when you see what Josh done is way worse and I’m not even talking about him having a baby … ,” she added.
Josh has yet to respond to June’s recent comments.

Maybe he did drugs once or twice, I am not condoning that at all, but he obviously wasn’t addicted. June is pissed off at that people are against Pumpkin and she is trying to do anything she can to smear Josh.

While I don’t condone drug use, can you blame the guy given the family he was dealing with during the time? 😉
I am actually kidding because I don’t believe a thing that comes out of June’s mouth (and Josh seemed to be the *only* one with a lick of sense in that chaotic nightmare known as a “family”), but I couldn’t resist making the joke.
The last person who should be calling out people for drug abuse is June. It wasn’t that long ago she was participating in some good ol’ fashioned cracktivities with Geno herself.
