Former “16 and Pregnant” Season 5 Star Jordan Cashmyer Has Died

Jordan Cashmyer has died, eight years after she first appeared on MTV‘s 16 and Pregnant. She was 26.

TMZ broke the news Sunday that Jordan passed away, but no cause of death is available yet.

Her death– which was confirmed by Facebook posts made by her father and grandfather on Sunday– comes just seven months after she gave birth to her second daughter, Lyla.

While Jordan’s episode of “16 and Pregnant” was memorable because she and her baby daddy Derek Taylor were homeless during Jordan’s pregnancy, she is probably best remembered for the troubled path she took after appearing on the show.

She was arrested multiple times, struggled with a drug addiction and mental health issues, and allegedly dabbled in escorting and other unsavory occupations.

She was hospitalized for a suicide attempt in November 2014. Two years later, she checked into rehab. During that period of sobriety, Jordan gave her Tumblr followers insight into her life.

“I suffered from very bad post-partum depression. While trying to get this issue under control, I started working at a [strip] club, a place that would completely alter my life in ways I never thought,” she wrote at the time. “For the past two years I have struggled with addiction…I practically used my body as a trashcan and would put whatever was given to me in my body.

“I would take whatever else was offered to me,” she wrote. “Whether it was coke, Xanax, whatever, I would take it, which damn near could’ve killed me. Once the Percocets weren’t cutting it anymore I turned to heroin,” she wrote. “I got so bad on that. I really had lost the small part of myself I had left in me. I felt like I was completely gone…it completely just ruined my life…Doing the heroin led me to start smoking crack which I only did for a short period of time because, thank God, something finally clicked in my head. I didn’t want this life.”

Jordan had recently turned her life around, though, getting sober in 2020 and welcoming Lyla the next year. She was to celebrate her two-year sobriety anniversary this month.

Tragedy continued to follow her, though. Shortly after Lyla’s birth, Lyla’s father— who was Jordan’s boyfriend— died.

On Sunday, Jordan’s dad Dennis updated their family on Jordan’s death, writing about it in a Facebook post.

“Last night I received a call no parent ever wants. My oldest beloved daughter, Jordan has passed away, she was only 26 years old,” he wrote. “Our hearts are truly broken. No parent should ever have to go through losing a child, EVER.

“Please keep my family in your thoughts prayers as we navigate through this terrible tragedy. Please understand and respect our privacy at this time. We are surrounded by the love and support of our children, grand daughter Lyla and family members.”

A statement on Jordan’s death was issued on the official “16 & Pregnant” Facebook page, as well as the “Teen Mom” page.

“We are deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Jordan Cashmyer,” the statement reads. “Our hearts go out to her family and friends during this difficult time.”

Sadly, Jordan is not the first girl from “16 & Pregnant” to die. Valerie Fairman of Season 2 died in 2016 of a drug overdose

UPDATE! Derek Taylor, the father of Jordan’s first daughter, has spoken out about Jordan’s death. He defended himself after stating that he and his daughter “didn’t lose anything” in regard to Jordan’s death. Click here to read what he wrote.

  1. The Ashley. Please do consider the requests to delete “ohdearhowsad’s” comments if for no other reason than this person’s abusiveness to other posters. If people are allowed to post whatever they like, no matter how vile, and treat others on this site with such outrageous disrespect without consequence, they are being given tacit encouragement and support of their toxicity. There are reasons sites have commenting rules that disallow comments such as ODHD’s.

Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences.

  2. For all we know she died from a medical reason that has nothing to do with drugs whatsoever. Ohdear trolls should stay under their bridge, get off their phone, and get a life

  3. This is extremely sad. She seemed to be doing well from the tiny glimpses we had into her life. I’ve read some of the comments here and this “oh dear” person has some serious issues.

First of all, no cause of death has been released. Jumping to conclusions is messy and gross. Secondly, her parents let her down. If they had been supportive and loved their daughter as a parent should, Jordan NEVER would have been homeless. Honestly, I blame her parents for a lot of the issues she ended up having. She wouldn’t have been working the club if she didn’t have to. A lot of girls in that situation turn to substances just to get on the stage. She was doing what she could to provide for herself. How could she provide for her daughter when she was struggling so much? She was wise to give custody to a more stable person while she worked on herself.

To act like she deserved to die young because of how shitty and out of control her life was says more about YOUR character than anything else. If your life is so happy and fulfilling, there’s no reason to make sad attempts to bring down someone you don’t know who’s also deceased. Her kids are without their mother. She will never get to see them grow up. They will never get to see her with stability. It’s absolutely tragic all around.

I understand that “gossip blogs” like this one can desensitize us to commenting on the lives of people we don’t know. It’s totally fair to have an opinion on public figures. But the comments made by “oh dear” are not opinions. They’re an incredibly sad reflection on the life of someone posing as happy who has to be truly miserable to say what they did.

To “oh dear”: I’m sorry life has been so unkind to you. I’m sorry that your only defense is anger. I hope that you get the help you deserve because lashing out at strangers on the internet is not normal behavior. Your choice of username is a clear reflection of how your life has been so far.

I wish Jordans family nothing but love and healing during this time. I hope her daughters don’t grow up bitter and angry, but instead can understand in time what their mother went through. If anyone else reading this is struggling, I truly hope you find the courage to reach out to your local resources. Calling your local department of health office can be a good place to start. I know it can be hard to ask for help, but I believe in you 💙

  4. Wow. Your an asshole. That’s was someone’s child and she was someone’s mother regardless of her choices she is no longer living. Be respectful u dick.

  5. The Ashley should be deleting disgusting comments such as OhDear’s comments.. It’s disrespectful to loyal readers who have to see this absolute hate being spewed.

  6. @theashley Shouldn’t OHDEARHOWSAD comments be deleted? Everybody has a right to their opinion but this person is crossing the line with the way over the top sexual comments. It’s absolutely disgusting

    1. just read their comments and how miserable do you have to be in life to constantly comment horrible things like that to strangers!!! i was never a jordan fan but no matter how much you dislike a person it’s never ok to wish harm on them and be that insensitive to their families who are mourning. @theashley please delete those harmful comments and block them

  7. i feel so bad for layla. genevieve at least has her dad and 2 loving families but who knows about layla, who doesn’t even have memories of her parents 🙁

  8. She wasn’t a “junkie”. She was a young woman with a lot of pain and trauma. She got stuck in the devastatingly powerful grip of addiction.
Maybe you have experienced someone close to you that has/had an addiction and that is why you’re so angry but, I truly hope that you can also heal from what has caused your current mindset.

  9. As a mama who has experienced this lost you never wanna wish it on anybody you matter the circumstances! R.I.P. Jordan her babies have a forever Angel 😇 watching over them 🥰💕

  10. I thought she was on the right track with the new baby and didn’t know about the dad dying last year. RIP to them both.

Patiently waiting on the update on cause.

Prayers for the 2 little girls and the family.

  11. Very sad. Jordan is one of the few 16&P girls that always stood out in my memory. It was sad to see the downward turn her life took in recent years, and a lot of people hoped her second child would be her rebirth. Poor girl, she really struggled.

  12. jordan’s episode was truly one of my faves. let her and lyla’s dad rest in peace. its quite sad even if its drug related.

if you need help, get help, please.

  13. I am so sad to read about this. I had really hoped that her getting clean and welcoming her second daughter was the positive turning point for her life that she really deserved. Condolences to her family and her young daughters.

  14. You sound ignorant and miserable….they article didn’t say anything about cause of death, so please stfu, kindly.

    1. I wish you had more compasion & understanding. I truly hope you never lose someone dear to you to the disease of addiction.

    2. @OHDEARHOWSAD – Wow! I hope no one in your life is anything but perfect as it sounds like you would offer them no compassion or understanding. Your cruel comments are probably just a cover for a sad, hurt person who’s been let down by people in your life. I’m sorry if your life has been filled with disappointment but being an asshole is not going to make you feel better nor will it attract love and kindness into your life.

No one wants to be an addict. I’m sure Jordyn woke up every day wanting to do better. We don’t know shit about her life or the struggles she faced.

Stop being such an ignorant asshole, it’s not a good look.

      1. @OHDEARHOWSAD – Your life is so extremely happy and fufliing yet you’re on here telling strangers things like, “keep your pedo dick outta your kids arse,” and “Big fuckwit party of sucking dick to pay your rent from your junkie father.”

A fufilling life indeed! Have you ever thought of being a motivational speaker or life coach? Spewing hate at strangers and passing judgment on a young, troubled woman who just passed away are surely pastimes many of us can only dream of.

I hope your night is as happy and fulfilling as usual. Perhaps you could go to an AA or NA meeting and tell everyone there what useless losers they are. Imagine the possibilites!

    3. @Ohdearhowsad, it’s called ADDICTION, it’s a disease that many have tried and failed to overcome before finally succeeding!!!

No child is better off without a parent, nor is any parent better off without a child!!! I speak from experience, having lost a parent as a teenager!!!

RIP Jordan!!!! Prayers for your family in this time of sorrow!!!

  15. Such sad news. I remember her episode and feeling very sad for their little family. Being homeless had to make pregnancy so scary and stressful. She was a beautiful young woman with a lot of demons. Now two little girls are going to grow up with their mom. Regardless the choices that lead to her passing, there is much to mourn.

It’s a good reminder that everyone has someone that loves them and mourns their passing. We feel like we know someone because their life, or rather a part of their life, is playing out on our tv’s for our entertainment but we really don’t know the person. We don’t see their good traits and the people who love them. We probably should be kinder—especially right now when there is so much hate, anger, and fear prevalent.

Actually, I should be more kind. It’s so easy to be snarky and judgmental but I need to work harder at being kind and forgiving.

    1. Thanks for this reminder of kindness. I need to work on this. When I get super busy I can come across as mean and I know I do this and I always feel so bad. Ive got to have more patience and be kinder.

    2. thank you for this 🙏🏼 ngl i did not like her at all in since i found out what really happened with her and her parents & she chose to be homeless and made her parents look like the bad guys in her episode and her choices after her episode. i was so proud of her when she got clean and was wishing nothing but the best for her. we all really do need to be reminded more often to just always be kind and thoughtful

    3. Its so easy to be judgemental bc we can clearly see the paths that should have been taken, or what we would have done.

It’s difficult to see so many opportunities when these lives could have been saved, and then to helplessly read about them being gone.

Its hard but all we can do is move forward. Pray for the families. Pray the girls find the love they need to avoid the same mistakes.

  16. Sad… I remember her episode and just feeling her profound sadness through the screen. Her dad kicked out her boyfriend but said she could stay and she chose homelessness with her boyfriend while pregnant… that alone told me she struggled with her mental health and self esteem. I always hoped she’d be able to rise above her struggles.

    1. I think I read that he overdosed but I could be wrong. 🤔🤔 either way it’s a sad situation all the way around.

    1. Or she could grow up to feel the pain of losing both parents at a young age and turn to drugs and/or alcohol to numb that pain!!

Addiction is a vicious cycle!!! One that a person shouldn’t have to watch someone they love struggle with or struggle with it themselves!!!

    1. G lives with her dad’s (Derek) mother. She may be living with her dad by now, I’m not sure. But I know he’s in her life though. He recently had another baby as well.

  17. R.I.P. MTV should hold some type of special episode or something about this but they won’t. Producer Morgan Freeman is a despicable human being.

    1. How terribly sad for Lyla that she’ll never get to know either of her parents. My thoughts go out to both of Jordan’s kids and all her loved ones.
