Jon Gosselin and two of his and ex-wife Kate’s eight children, Collin and Hannah, are set to return to TV in an upcoming Netflix documentary that dives into their family’s experience on reality TV and beyond.
“For nearly a decade, the life of the Gosselin Family played out on TV as comfort viewing,” the Netflix press release for the upcoming documentary reads. “On the hit reality series ‘Jon & Kate Plus 8’ (later renamed ‘Kate Plus 8’ following the couple’s divorce in 2009), viewers got a front-row seat to the family’s unique blend of chaos and love as they navigated raising twins and sextuplets.”
The press release goes on to note that, in the years after the Gosselins obtained TV stardom, “conflicting accounts have emerged from within the family itself– competing memories of the same childhood, home, and time in the spotlight.” The documentary promises to piece together the story from (two of) the kids who grew up on the show, as well as “the adults who built a brand around them, and the audiences that couldn’t look away.”
Jon reacted to the announcement Wednesday on social media, telling followers that the upcoming project will “fill in some blanks of what really transpired.”
The upcoming Netflix documentary will mark the first time since 2023 that Jon, Collin and Hannah have all participated in a project discussing their family’s reality TV experience. As you may recall, the trio previously appeared on an episode of VICE’s ‘Dark Side of the 2000s,’ where they spoke about their family’s former show, as well as Kate’s alleged mistreatment of Collin.
The news of the Gosselin Family documentary comes just weeks after the release of Collin’s memoir, In The Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood. The 22-year-old’s book details the alleged abuse he endured as a child at the hands of his now-estranged mom, Kate– some of which occurred while their TLC series was still on the air.
The tell-all also includes Collin’s account of being removed from his mom’s home at the age of 11 and being placed in a live-in facility where he remained for 22 months. When Jon eventually gained full custody of Collin, he already had custody of Hannah, who had chosen to live with him instead of Kate as a teen. The other six Gosselin children– who’ve been estranged from Jon and Collin for years now– remained in Kate care until the age of 18.
While Jon has publicly supported Collin’s new book, Hannah revealed on social media this week that she is no longer in contact with Collin and hasn’t been for nearly a year. Hannah also revealed to followers that she’s had a relationship with her once-estranged mom and other siblings “for quite a few years now.”
“Beyond this I will not be commenting on Collin’s behavior growing up or my experiences growing up with him,” she added.
At this time, a release date for the Gosselin Family documentary has not been announced.
