‘Teen Mom OG’ Star Catelynn Lowell Reveals She Suffered a Miscarriage on Thanksgiving Day

Catelynn Lowell is opening up about the recent heartbreaking loss she and husband Tyler Baltierra recently suffered.

On Tuesday, the Teen Mom OG star revealed to Champion Daily that she had a miscarriage last month, just days after finding out that she was pregnant with the couple’s fourth child. (Cate and Ty are parents to daughters Nova, 5, and Vaeda, 1, and the biological parents of daughter Carly, who was adopted shortly after her birth in 2009.)

“About 3 days before Thanksgiving we found out we were expecting,” she told the site. “We were soooo excited! We didn’t tell Nova because we wanted to wait a while. I took like six different pregnancy tests to make sure!”

Catelynn and Tyler have been very open about the fact that they’d like to have another child. (Ty has made it absolutely no secret that he desperately wants a son.)

Unfortunately, though, Catelynn says she miscarried the baby on Thanksgiving Day.

“I started bleeding,” she said. “No matter what, I believe that when a woman sees a positive test you automatically start getting excited. All of that came crashing down. We lost the baby. I was overwhelmed by sadness and felt my emotions.”

In a statement posted to Twitter and Facebook on Tuesday, Catelynn said she is having a hard time recovering.

“I am still in the thick of dealing with this loss, as it was recent and all the emotional trauma that follows such a loss in an already horrifically hard year” she wrote.

As ‘Teen Mom OG’ stars know, Catelynn suffered from severe postpartum depression and had a miscarriage after the birth of Nova. After experiencing suicidal thoughts, Catelynn sought treatment several times at a center in Arizona 2017. The miscarriage and its aftermath played out during a 2018 episode of ‘Teen Mom OG.’

Catelynn says she has used the tools she’s learned since then to cope with this loss.

“I can tell that the mental health work I’ve done has had a huge impact because I wasn’t overcome by anxiety but I was just sad,” Cate told Champion Daily. “It was super early but like I said before it still hurts and all the excitement goes out the window. This is why we waited to tell Nova…. because experiencing one miscarriage in my past I knew it was a sad possibility.”

Catelynn told the site that she and Tyler hope to try again for another baby.

“I know that when the time [is] right it will happen and everything in life has a plan and a destiny,” she said. “Now we have two beautiful angels watching over us and our children. One day I know I will witness those angels and get to spend eternity with them. Until then I pray they watch over their siblings and us.”

On Twitter, Catelynn wrote that she only told her followers about the miscarriage because she wanted to help people going through similar losses.”

“I opened up about this only to help those who are experiencing the same thing to know that there’s someone else every day experiencing this,” she wrote. “This was painful to share but again, you’re not alone.”

Tyler has yet to comment publicly on the miscarriage.

  1. They dont need another child. She is barely into the 2 she has now. And this obsession with a boy?? All that says to the kids they have is, you’re not good enough.

  2. I’m happy to hear Catelyn stating she is utilizing the mental health tools she learned during in-patient stays to cope with their loss.

  3. I’m sorry for their loss but I don’t understand why they would consider having another child. They are overwhelmed with the 2 they have(without even going to school or work like most people), have no education/skills, no jobs as soon as Teen Mom ends (any day now), and the ongoing life threatening mental health issues that she has. They need another kid as much as Jenelle does.

  4. I’m sorry for the loss but I do not understand why they keep getting pregnant. Catelynn is not very stable mentally. They should be grateful for the 2 kids they currently have and put their energy into them.

    1. Totally agree with you. And not only does she have mental health issues, but unless she has drastically changed since I last saw a current photo of her, she is not physically healthy either. I hope she takes the time to appreciate and take care of the 2 kids they have.

  5. Maybe she should focus on getting an education, paying her tax debt, and improving her physical and mental health before she brings another kid into her mess of a life.

  6. I know this is sounds horrible but is it possible Catelynn is making this up for a Teen Mom story? On the other hand, maybe her life is stable now and she is forced to make up dramatic stories to remain on Teen Mom??

  7. I feel really bad for them, but they have more issues than Vogue. I understand she’s a full time mom, but her identity is so wrapped up in Ty, it’s clear that she puts all her self worth in giving him a son. She has so many problems, it looks like Uncle Sam will be breaking down their door any day now and there aren’t enough therapy horses on Earth that are going to help her with all that she’s got on her plate and will be have on her plate soon. I really wish she would get some practical goals and real life skills, but the TM train will soon be pulling into the station for the last time.

  8. I know this may sound weird, but I’m wondering if she has miscarriages when she carries boys. I’ve know people who have multiple girls, and have not been able to carry boys to term. Unsure why that happens.

    1. Long ago, when I went to college, statistically speaking, boys were 50 or higher percent of miscarriages and complications like downs syndrome than girls. The idea being that girls are “XX” and boys are “Xy” (mom being the X donor and dad either adds an X – a girl, or a y for the boys). If there was any issues from the dad, the mom’s X was supposed to take over for a viable pregnancy or her body would try to expell the pregnancy knowing something was wrong.

    2. I have actually heard that girls do have a higher survival rate. By what exact percentage, I’m not sure. But I don’t think it’s weird to say at all, I think it seems to be the case with some people unfortunately.

  9. I feel for any woman who suffers a miscarriage… That being said, after multiple ones, maybe your body is trying to tell you something? The fact that Cate and Tyler sell these stories also makes me hesitant to feel too bad for them because so far it just seems like Cate’s storyline to be the sad frumpy mom always trying for that boy.

AND, at least before these fools managed 800k in debt to the government, they could afford medical intervention that selected the sex of the child! So quit crying about another baby/boy. Hot damn, or ADOPT. You know, like Carley
