It’s officially over for Paul Staehle and Karine Martins. 

On Wednesday morning, TMZ broke the news that the former 90 Day Fiancé stars got divorced on April 13 after Karine filed a petition to dissolve the marriage in February. Although the details of the case have not been publicly disclosed, the outlet confirmed that the two originally entered into a settlement agreement in Karine’s home country of Brazil in January; the settlement was then filed in Paul’s former home state of Kentucky.

(Paul moved back to Brazil following his and Karine’s separation, despite claims that he “might get murdered” there… as you do.) 

The released documents obtained by TMZ state that the couple’s marriage was “irretrievably broken and there was no reasonable prospect of reconciliation.”

They also confirm the two have been separated for more than a year and have been living apart for more than two months. 

As “90 Day Fiancé” fans may recall, Paul and Karine have had quite the winding road to get to this point. The couple made their TLC debut in 2017 on Season 1 of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days and went on to appear on several more “90 Day Fiance” franchise seasons before their story concluded in 2020. Their televised journey followed along as they got married, moved to the United States and welcomed their first son, Pierre. 

In addition to their romance, their storyline touched on Paul’s criminal past, which included a 2014 charge for second-degree arson and burning personal property to defraud an insurer.

This would only be the start for Paul and Karine’s tumultuous relationship. 

Here, The Ashley takes a look back at the wild highs and lows (and sometimes just downright strange) incidents involving Karine and Paul.

In 2019, the pair confirmed their split, with Paul posting a crying GIF and a photo of Pierre, writing, “Daddy’s gonna miss you.” The breakup came just a week after their home in Brazil was “severely burglarized” and “everything of value” was taken. 

During the summer of 2020, the couple filed restraining orders against each other following a physical fight– which Paul livestreamed on Instagram– prompting Paul to claim that he would never see then-pregnant Karine or Pierre again. Their respective restraining orders were dropped in October and the couple welcomed their second son, Ethan, in 2021, but not without Paul accusing Karine of cheating on him and promising to livestream the reading of the paternity test results on his wife’s OnlyFans.

Around the time of Ethan’s birth, Paul made multiple public statements about his relationship with Karine, including that Karine allegedly put glass shards in his Dairy Queen Blizzard and had allowed Pierre to be around a convicted pedophile. He also alleged that Karine was human trafficked (which he later denied), and that he and Karine were keeping their miscarried baby’s body in their refrigerator in Brazil.

Paul also got into a one-sided argument with Karine on social media, during which he accused her of calling the police on him and later posted the results of his STD test in order to prove that he hadn’t cheated on her. 

In December 2021, Karine confirmed that she did not have custody of her children following the release of a video that showed her grabbing Paul by the hair and pinning him to their couch by the neck in front of Pierre. She was later charged with fourth-degree assault in relation to the incident in March 2022. 

Later that year, Paul and Pierre were both reported missing on the day that Pierre and Ethan were supposed to be turned over to Child Protective Services (CPS), who were granted custody of the children. Paul told TMZ that since Pierre has “extreme separation anxiety,” he took his son with him on a trip looking for work between Pennsylvania and Florida. Three days after Paul spoke to the press, Pierre was returned to CPS and went on to be placed in the care of Paul’s cousin, along with Ethan. 

Amid the battle for custody of their children, Karine took out another restraining order against Paul in September 2022, accusing him of rape and other abuses. However, seven months later, the two reconciled and rekindled their relationship in order to work together to get their kids back. One month later, Paul announced that Karine was set to regain custody of the boys, but then claimed that his cousin had illegally moved the children out of Kentucky and filed for permanent custody of them.

Although Paul and Karine have not updated fans on their custody situation since 2024, Paul claims that he hasn’t seen his children since 2022. 

Later that year, Paul went missing again in Brazil and Karine posted a cryptic message to social media implying that he had died. While Paul was found six days later, his mom claimed that he was “still not in a good situation,” but was alive. 

Paul and Karine have seemingly moved on from each other and are pursuing love again. In March of 2025, Karine announced her pregnancy with new boyfriend Michael, despite still not having custody of her sons. (She appears to have welcomed a daughter last year.) 

In 2024, Paul revealed on the Domenick Nati Show that he was interested in “90 Day Fiancé” star (and self-proclaimed “Seksi Meemaw”) Angela Deem, even reaching out to her in an effort to connect. (Angela did not respond to Paul advances.) 

Paul also had an obsessive fan claim to be his girlfriend last year, with the individual even having Paul’s name and face tattooed onto her body. Paul denied ever being in a relationship with the woman and insisted that she was harassing him online.  

Neither Paul nor Karine has made official statements at this time, but Paul has posted screenshots of the TMZ story confirming the divorce four times on his Instagram.
